[News] Zach Lavine breaks hand. Out for the year

I guess he really had an injury of some sort on his hand? I thought he was making a mockery of the process with these ridiculous injury reports - like sore 5th finger. Either way, not sure he or the org minds.

Start Monk. Westbrook-Monk-DeRozan are only -1.8 in 224 minutes this season.

He at least knows what he is doing & can shoot. When the subs come in, Monk-Carter-Cardwell are +9.5 in 178 minutes with a TS% of 57.

Perry seemed to want to throw Carter in to sweeten several proposed trades. That questions whether Carter is part of the future Kings or is he being showcased to develop a lucrative trade option?

With so little time and effort spent grooming him before the trade deadline, it is apparent that long his term status is unlikely to be part of a Kings' rebuild. The rub is that his contract and current skill level will not make him a highly desirable trade option for other teams. The Kings aggressiveness to acquire point guards in trades and the draft will tell the tale.
While this is very likely the truth of the matter, I think anything that keeps Devin Carter heavily in the rotation is a net positive at this stage of the season. 👍

Outside of having an obviously overstated paycheck, I’m not sure I totally understand the huge hate for Zach. Agree he’s an empty stats, no defense former all star that doesn’t seem to exude a lot of hustle, but I never got the impression he was a bad guy or teammate (maybe I missed something as I haven’t been following as closely as usual this year.) Hopefully he heals up, gets off to a hot start next year and we can u load him for something of value as a huge expiring contract.

I don’t know either as none of this is his fault but I have noticed on multiple occasions that when he has gone to the ground basically no one on the team goes to help him up.

One time was glaringly obvious that he was waiting for someone to help him up as it was heading into a break and after like 5-10 seconds of sitting on the ground, Max had got up off the bench to run to the other side of the court to help him up. It was just weird.

Pair that with those comments about how he could score a bunch every night if his team would pass him the damn ball… seems like maybe he hasn’t been a good fit in any regard.

Possibly, but Carter could also play himself into being part of the core of young players Perry wants to keep. If he shows he can be a decent facilitator and a game changer on defense, he could be a very valuable 3rd guard in a 3 guard rotation.

Eh, never got the impression he was Russ in terms of professionalism or locker room presence

Earlier in the season took many games off for an injury than magically appeared for the Bucks game, the one team that wanted him

Constantly questioning the team and Doug outright in the media

Questioning his role or blaming his role in the media than his own play..

And even this is a potentially minor enough injury not to sideline him that the org and he seems happy to end his season

It appears from reactions and play that Westbrook, LaVine, and to a lesser extent, DeRozan, are playing for themselves rather than for the team. It is not unexpected given the age and experience that they have. Additionally, they likely know that their time with the Kings is very limited and soon they will be moving on to another team.

That doesn't mean they are dogging it on court but rather they are playing hard and trying to score (most of the time) to preserve their reputations. What they do on the Kings will likely affect their contracts and future in the NBA, and they are well aware of it..

I personally wouldn’t have them on the same level

The young guys in the media often praise Russ for his influence. No one would ever question his effort, and it’s not iso-me like Demar’s necessarily. And he was the one vet NOT in the trade mill come the deadline. I think he could possibly have a role with the team going forward, maybe as a player/assistant type

Demar has a personality that lends itself to going all out on the court when the whistle sounds, even if it’s an iso type game. His love for the game won’t lend itself to dogging it or taking games off. Though his commitment to the team isn’t there, as he’s repeatedly made known (which he really can’t be blamed for), he wants to be “playing for something” at this stage of his career, so he was in trade rumors and probably wasn’t moved for lack of demand

Zach is on a different level for me, on the court and in the locker room, from the senses I get
