Wow, it's getting testy

Bench
Stackhouse called Jon Barry a "garbage player who hit a few 3's"

Avery Johnson just completely lost it in the post game conference saying he doesn't make excuses unlike Van Gundy. He basically dogged Van Gundy, the press, the officials - you name it.

Avery: "A lot of things surprised me. You know what one is? Here a team is in an 0-2 hole everyone writing this team off and you don't even hear anything about how the Mavericks won 3 in a row. It's about other stuff. Maybe I need to go crazy. Maybe I need to go crazy then you'll hear about game 6 but prob. not. You will only hear about the coach going crazy"

- that's a blatant diss at Van Gundy

Ah, nothing like a fight among Texans to brighten my evening.

BTW these are quotes from the radio I'm trying to type as fast as I can while hearing it. These quotes not to be taken from print - I hope I can get my hands on those soon!

I love it :)

Things like this make the NBA worth watching...

Well, that and some of the world's greatest athletes...

I agree I like the NBA like this. Give me a few I'll have more quotes I can't believe Avery Johnson has lost his cool like this.

I had no idea that there was so much bad blood from the ex-teammates

My prediction: Before it's over, Avery Johnson will actually call Jeff Van Gundy a "poo poo head."

oh god. sure this makes for great entertainment but i mean come on. getting blowed out and losing a game then going on to diss bench players who helped put your team away is very unclassy. god i hope houston wins this series. i cannot stand the mavs

being the Mav fan I have to stand up for Avery, he has a point. Now I don't know about blaming the media about not giving the Mavs attnetion but I do like the jabs @ Van Gundy. Van Gundy's saga PAID OFF TONIGHT for the Rockets. No foul problems at all.

Van Gundy might win this series for the Rockets and it will only cost him $100,000

mavsman - Fair is fair. Mark Cuban has paid over $1 million for his comments against the officials.

I don't think the pot should be calling the kettle black...

And perhaps his job...

The Don was displeased with Gundy#1's mouth. The lack of "helping" by naming the ref ain't helping his case either.

The funny part is that Stackhouse plays no D and throws up some of the ugliest shots this side of Antoine Walker. Sometimes he gets into the lane and puts the ball up without even looking at the basket.

What he needs to do is hush up and hope Yao plays like that one more time.

LOL @ the van gundy bashing! im kind of sick of it..... its funny coming from a mavs fan whos owner sends in clips to the NBA everytime their in the playoffs! its about time they got a taste of their own medicine

Van Gundy is a great dude
I love the dude!

He's one of the good guys in this sport, and I hate to see any bad stuff happen to him.

I remember when he was with the knicks and they lost to the heat. This guy on the team (I think it was the heat) just found out that his mother died or something and she was in New York and that he was gonna have to try to get a way back there, and Van Gundy insisted that he ride the Knicks team jet back to be with his mother.

He said, "Naw, it wouldn't be right", but Van Gundy and the knicks all insisted he jump on their plane and get back to be with his family.

THAT'S a standup guy and a man to respect.

I think Van Gundy has some valid points. I honestly do. Dallas has benifitted from some questionable calls as well. lets not be quick to forget the ending minutes of game 5 and that michael finely no call. could have easily changed the results of that game but no mavs fans on board to discuss that incident

I like JVG but I don't even buy his story. I think it was a case of him trying to use tactics to motivate the team, kind of like a "us vs. the world" mentality. I don't even buy the story in the first place and here's why:

- Stern doesn't tell officials to target certain players and HE'S CERTAINLY not going to do it after Cuban suggests he should. He doesn't like Cuban - everyone in the NBA knows this. They've butted heads so many times you would think Stern wouldn't give Mark Cuban that kind of satisfaction, that kind of ackowledgement that "gee, you know, Mark Cuban was right." David Stern doesn't do that for Cuban now and he will never do that for Cuban.

- It makes absolutely no sense to lose a television audience of 1 billion+ if Yao leaves the playoffs. And David Stern is all about the globalization of the game. IF INDEED HE / STU JACKSON TARGETED YAO MING IT WOULD BE THE DUMBEST BUSINESS DECISION HE COULD MAKE. No one THAT consumed with globalizing the NBA as much as David Stern is, would jeapordize losing that many viewers. More viewers = more $$

I don't know I don't buy the story period. I think it's a bit of Van Gundy trying to rally his troops and it didn't work in game 5. The series isn't over though so we'll see how effective his strategy was.

Ah but don't forget about the myriad of moving picks not called against the ROX ( and there were several more tonight).

The Rockets won game 2 on a buzzer beater with Yao moving on the pick that set up McGrady's shot.

Coach Avery Johnson was angry afterward about the focus of this series having been on Rockets coach Jeff Van Gundy and his complaints about the calls against Yao.

"Maybe I need to go crazy," Johnson said. "Then you won't talk about Game 6, you will talk about the coach going crazy. [But] we lost the game. We don't make excuses. The game was called fairly."

mavsman - You're on neutral turf. We really don't care that much. PixelPusher really put it into perspective.

Besides the Kings, I'm a big Yao Ming's fan too. He's probably one of the nicest guy in the NBA.
