Would you want J-Will back?

#1
The Miami Heat are inquiring about Ron-Ron, offering Udonis Haslem and J-Dub. Source:http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/rumors/...at-trade-offer-for-Artest?urn=nba,36963&cp=10

It says the Kings aren't exactly thrilled, but with Rashard Lewis to the Magic, the Heat may go after Artest even harder now, with Williams as a good piece due to his impending free agency in '08. So, would you want White Chocolate back, even just for one season? It would help with eventual cap space, and bring some excitement back to a team that doesn't know what excitement is.

Well if I read the data sheets right he is an FA in 08 so it does mean an ending contract, fun guy to watch but not a guy who is likely to win many games by himself... not a bad idea.

To answer the question: No. I wouldn't seek him out. IMO, we should be playing hardball with Riley. They need Artest more than we need to get rid of him. He'll more than likely opt out this summer anyhow, and he's looney enough to take the mid-level to play where ever he wants. Any damage to us would be minor.

We should ask for Wright, a first and whomever to make it work (Williams if necessary). Shaq is getting old, and they need someone to guard Lebron for the next few years. New York is always an option because of Ron and Isiah's connection, and they have better pieces.

Williams isn't the same player anymore. He isn't as exciting, still streaky, and still makes a lot of bad decisions. Those were exciting times, so people looked the other way. Bringin him back would mean all that stuff would be dug up again. He was Ron before Ron came here.

I have no interest in swapping out KT and then picking Haslem right back up.

But what would work under the Cap:

Artest and KT for JWill (Ender), Doleac (ender) and Wright.

Why we do it- We get the young guy we want, we get a lot of money coming off the books, we get decent value for Ron, and we get rid of KT.

Why Miami does it- Because Riley is upset and embarrased by the Heat's playoff performance. Aside from Wade, every single player on the playoff roster suffered from a complete lack of intensity during the playoffs. Enter Ron Artest. He and Wade immediately become the fiercest swingman combo in the league. You get to make a run at the Championship (not just the Eastern conference) while Shaq still has some gas left.

Plus, Williams and Doleac only have value as enders if they are used. Does Riley really think he is going to do better than Artest on the market? Yeah, taking KT is a bitter pill to swallow, but he can platoon with Haslem and form an effective compliment to Shaq. Plus, Riley is going to have to pony up SOMETHING to get Artest. If you want to make a deal, come with a real offer Pat...

JWill is just an ending contract at this point. Because he is an ender I would consider him an absolutely core piece of any deal with Miami for ron/Mike (and forget the mediocrity that is Haslem please). But its not really a question of wanting JWill back. Be fun in a way for it come full circle, but its the contract which makes him important here. And still a no go under any circumstances unless they at least throw in Wright. Probably unless they throw in a pick as well. If Pat wants to get stingy then he can just watch his team waddle aruond as a #8 seed as Shaq grows older and fatter every year. He needs what we have more than we need him.

I would welcome Haslem because, although he's mediocre, he's still younger and better than half of our roster, doesn't have any major attitude problems, and we'd have to unload somebody else on Miami to make it a legal trade. If we took JWill and Haslem we'd have to hand over $12M-$18.75M in payroll in exchange; that's $4.6M-$11.35M in addition to Ron. We could unload anyone but Bibby or Brad with no further ado, and it's within spitting distance with Brad -- considerably less than an undrafted rookie's minimum contract -- so there are all sorts of possibilities.

And I seriously think we're down to about 2 teams that are motivated to get RonRon -- maybe not even 2, because the Knicks know they're not going anywhere this season anyway. We may be able to trade Bibby, but he's not worth so much that another team would take on a bad contract to get him. So I see Haslem as possibly our last chance to unload one our creaky vets. And if we can fast-talk them into a draft pick too, so much the better.

Haslem would nicely complete our collection of crap undersized bigs with $7million contracts lasting forever, but we simply do not need that, or him. Kt can go get us 10 and 8 if that's what we really want. And Mike and Ron, they need to go, but they ARE gone in 2 years anyway. They might be gone in one year -- I believe both have options at the end of this upcoming season. And both contracts are done in 2. Haslem's lasts another year beyond that. There is absolutely no reason to repeat the KT mistake and trade away the better player to get a mediocre nothing with a longer and more unmoveable contract. We aren't THAT desperate. We should be desperate to land expiring contracts, draft picks, kids. But we don't have to do a thing but sit around and twiddle our thumbs if the goal is just to clear up cap room in 2 years. If a guy neither helps us become better on the floor or better financially, then what is the point? Better to hold onto Ron -- at least there he might free you from his deal by committing a felony or leaving to pursue a rap career. :p

if we trade for Haslem, i give up on this team

he's Kenny Thomas Jr. Expensive, long contract. Almost the same production out of him. Haslem scored a few more points and grabbed a few more boards, but only because he got about 10 more minutes than Kenny. no thanks!

I would trade Artest for Haslem.. Next to Shaq Haslem pulled down almost double digit rebounding.

Think of the guy on the Kings. I bet he would be one of the leagues leading rebounder. But isn't his contract a bit large? As for J-Will I guess that could give us some flexibility, but if Artest goes I would have to say we trade either SAR or KT with him.

There's a deal floating around RGM about swinging Haslem to the Rockets for more expirings and picks, which I think makes everyone happier. Basically, Artest, KT, Head to the Heat, Williams, Sura, Wright, to the Kings, and Haslem to the Rockets

A three-for-two player trade to the Kings means one less roster spot for one of the kids.

I don't think we can stack enough players anyway to NOT get the youngans some time.

As it stands now I want to see Garcia, Martin, Douby, Hawes, Price, Williams all time out there. Hell, if it was up to me, and if Douby was up to the task of learning how to play point I would have the starting lineup;
C-Hawes
PF-Williams
SF-Garcia
SG-Martin
PG-Douby

This is the best case scenario for getting the young guys time right? :D Of course the Kings would only average about 80 points a night in the process! At least we would be a lock for the top 3 in 2008 draft.

But it's a good idea to get those 5 as much time as we can. I have a feeling we will know what those 5 are made of after th first couple months of the season.
