Would the Knicks trade for Artest?

Just wondering what you guys think. Do you think if Petrie pushed Artest onto the knicks do you think they'd bite and give us like a david lee or channing frye along with a first round pick in the 2008 draft or something? They wouldn't be taking on a lot of money and he'd be a huge fan favorite for obvious reasons.

I don't know why people are so anxious here for us to rid ourselves of Artest. The guy has settled down and grown from his incident in Detroit and is one of our best players, if not the best, especially lately. He also doesn't make ($) what he deserves. I think Artest could "survive" a rebuild if he was the core which he should be anyways. I'd move K9, Bibby, then Miller, before I'd move another starter like Artest. I was frustrated with his ball hogging earlier in the year, but he sure has more team ball lately, and if he doesn't he wants to win so bad he tries to carry us on his back. He isn't Kobie and ne needs to realize this which it looks like he sure has taken a back seat to other players, especially when they are in better position to score. At this point, I couldn't be happier with Artest.

It's not so much if the Knicks, or any team, would take Artest off our hands for pennies on the dollar, but why we would want to do that. It's not only Artest who might not be listening to the coach, it Mike and others as well.

There is a big problem with the identity of this team and a lot of it is the coach and his staff. We are really the same team we were the 2nd 1/2 of last season when we were one of the best teams in the NBA, we are underachieving and a lot of is Muss's fault and his group of Frat boys. We lost a great thinker in the game with "Coachie" leaving, also Elston Turner, along with Adelman obviously. This new group is young and not everything translats to the Real World as much as they might think. Our personel hasn't changed and to make the full argument Muss isn't good...he's going to need the players to hopefully make us into the Defensive juggernaut we are supposed to be...we have mixed matched parts still, but should definately have a better record then we have regardless just based on the 2nd 1/2 of last season.

fantastic reasoning you have there, now that his stock is high we shouldn't trade him. you'd do great in the stock market. his recent play is not really an issue. the issue is that we have to rebuild, artest is not a player you build around, and he's our best trade piece. if we can get a good young player and a draft pick i'd be all for it. a package like robinson, lee, and a first wouldn't be a bad deal or pennis on the dollar imo. just throwing out there as a possibility, wouldn't be my first choice.

No, but I'd take David Lee AND Channing Frye.

Artest/Garcia (both NY natives) and Hart (expiring) for Frye, Lee, and Q-Rich (crappy contract) works under the cap.

While we're at it, why not Miller to Indy for their big, his name escapes me. Miller's an Indiana native and would love to go back. Send everyone back home.

I would really like Matt back. Man he sure has turned into quite the shooter and hustle guy! At least he is pretty close to home there in Oakland. He always had the hustle, besides trading away CWebb, I don't know how many people really thought about Matt. Maybe only in as a afterthought, but he has really torched us this year when we played GS. He has the tat "Sacramento's finest" so I hope he can live up to that, if he is given another opportunity on this team.

I like what I saw in Lee, we could really use his rebounding and hustle. Then again it's so hard to judge how good a player is when they play against us because players all the time are torching us. What's that award we joke around here? I cannot recall the acronym now! :p If we had a decent measuring stick, but we have such a weak front court it is to be expected for us to get torched, especially at PF.

The problem with Artest is that when he's good, he's very good, and we all fall in love with him again, like when he first came to town. But you're right: He's not a No. 1 guy on a great team.

On the other hand, when he's bad, he's a franchise killer.

I'm not knocking anything he's done lately. But there's always the question in the back of your mind of whether he's going to do something bizarre (not feeding the dog enough, while dubious, doesn't count) that earns a suspension, jail time, etc.

As you said, his stock is high at the moment. If the Kings could get two young starters for him -- the David Lee/Channing Frye scenario is one example -- they'd have to think long and hard about it. I've watched Lee on League Pass enough to fall in love with his hustle; he'd be an immediate fan favorite here. And Frye still has a lot of upside. Not saying that's THE trade, but it's not terrible.

The Knicks don't need another defensive wing player. Sure they'd love to have Artest, but they've said repeatedly, their #1 need is an athletic/defensive big man to pair with Curry. IF they are to trade Frye, Lee or their #1, it'd be for a PF or C.
