It's just a rumor but dang...

Giving up the #2, and Wade just to get the #1? I guess the Heat REALLY want Rose eh? Just doesn't make any sense to do that. Either way you slice it the Heat get a hell of a prospect whether it be Rose or Beasley. Trading Wade is just dumb...

Dwyane Wade says he keeps hearing his name mentioned in trade rumors involving the Bulls and Miami Heat. Would the Bulls give up the No. 1 draft position to the Heat in exchange for Wade and the No. 2 overall selection? Or some combination of other players and picks?
"I have heard my name being talked about, and I can't worry about it," Wade said Monday at the Attack Athletics training facility on the West Side. "There is one thing in this league that you have no control over. If another organization wants you, then you should feel good to be wanted."
Wade grew up idolizing Michael Jordan while starring at Richards High School and then Marquette.
"I have a lot of history with the Bulls," Wade said. "And for them to come out with the first pick like that (with a 1.7 percent lottery chance) ... it was fitting that they would do something like that. Nobody thought that would happen. To be in that position and sit back and listen to anything and go back to a team and say: 'How about this? and 'How about that?' ... If [the Bulls] don't make any big moves like that, they're still going to have a great player."
Memphis guard Derrick Rose and Kansas State forward Michael Beasley are expected to go 1-2 in the draft.

I didn't buy for a second that #2 AND Wade stuff that the Tribune was posting. That just sounds like silly homer stuff (unless Pat Riley is rapidly developing dementia) and almost throws the whole rumor into blatant disrepute.

On the other hand I could see it being not beyond the realm of possibility to trade Wade straight up for the #1. Basically Wade becomes the #1 for Chicago -- a surefire superstar already in his prime and ready to lead the rest of their young guys. And the Heat then do the insane get both the #1 and #2 thing and try to nab a superstar pairing that will last them for the next 15 years. Would think Miami would only be interested though if they have concerns about Wade's long term health/durability. He could be like TMac -- a remarkable talent just not quite as good as his rival (LeBron (or Kobe in case of TMac) and breaking down prematurely.

Yeah, it looks like someone missed an "OR" there. Wade OR the #2 (and players/cash) for the #1.

There's rebuilding around a star, there's scrapping everything and building from the ground up ... and then there's this rumored insanity in which you give away both those options.

For route one you want to move up in the draft. For route two you want to stockpile picks. Why would Miami ever want to trade away a young proven star for only one potential star by moving up a single spot?

Homerism indeed.

The only way the Heat do this is if they know something we don't about Wade's physical problems. His shoulder/knee would have to be completely screwed. COMPLETELY.

I know its just a comparison brick but com on tmac was never ever on the same level as wade.
IMHO he was. In that Orlando Pistons series where T-Mac almost pulled an upset, the second best player on the floor was arguably Shawn Kemp.
He was fat and old at the time. (But played with good basketball IQ, they missed him the next season).

Wade had Butler*2 and Odom his rookie season to help him out a bit. Then he had Shaq.

The Heat got what they wanted out of him, mortgaged their future with the initial Shaq trade. IMHO it was worth it, and they knew this could happen. I have no problem with it. You can't build a team around a max contract player that you will never be able to get good draft picks with. Marion is probably gone.
A couple of draft picks, high up, is an excellent financial decision, that will make good business, and maybe make other players want to play with them.

tmac is garbage. No heart no intensity no pride no fight and no hunger. I don't care what wade had or didn't have he still produced and has a ring. He went to the second round in his rookie year and almost knocked out the first seeded pacers. The only thing tmac has "almost" done is get out of the first round. Pathetic. Tmac is and always will be a nobody and will be forgotten about quickly once he retires

Say what you want, but he is not garbage. I realize he hasn't gotten out of the first round, but imo he's played pretty well in most of those series. He's a superstar type player, and if I had to choose between TMac and KMart if both were in their primes, I'd take McGrady

The notion: Heat sends the No. 2 pick, guard Daequan Cook and center Mark Blount to the Grizzlies for the No. 5 pick, forward Mike Miller and guard Kyle Lowry.

The reasoning:

With its embarrassment over the unloading of Pau Gasol heightened during these NBA Finals, Memphis needs to inject a legitimizing personality into its mix. Beasley, at No. 2, would be that. He's Elvis at power forward, complete with oversized personality.

The Heat, with a roster sorely lacking depth, not only gets a point guard to start alongside Dwyane Wade, but also a proven outside shooter to keep defenses honest against Wade's penetration, something it sorely lacked last season.

As for the other pieces, the contracts of Cook and Blount perfectly match up from a salary-cap standpoint with the deals of Miller and Lowry.

With Rudy Gay, Mike Conley and Javaris Crittenton, the Grizzlies already have replacement parts for Miller and Lowry. Cook would provide a replacement shooting specialist.

I know it's Hoopsworld, but I think that's an interesting deal. If Miami isn't high on Beasley, I think they should do this. They get a young PG, a shooter, and get rid of Blount's contract in exchange for moving down 3 spots. They could still grab Lopez, Mayo, Randolph with that pick. And Memphis can afford to lose Miller and Lowry since they have Gay, Conley and Crittenton

When I first heard about this rumor I couldn’t believe it at all. Miami has Wade, a proven young talented, athletic athlete and they’d trade him for two picks which might not be in the same caliber at D-Wade’s game. The only thing I can think of is that Wade might be injury prone or Miami might see the pairing of two potential superstars as an opportunity they can’t pass on… But Pat doesn’t seem like he wants to rebuild and take a whole lot of time developing players. Who knows, anything is possible.
