USA Today - The Minnesota Timberwolves have re-signed guard Justin Reed, the Associated Press is reporting.

The Wolves made Reed, who was acquired in the seven-player January trade that sent Wally Szczerbiak to Boston, a qualifying offer on June 30 and had the right to match any contract offer made to him by another team.

In 40 games with Minnesota after the deal, including six starts, Reed averaged 6.3 points, 2.4 rebounds and 17.7 minutes. He provided some reliable energy and athleticism off the bench.

"Justin showed us that he is a tough competitor on both ends of the floor last season," vice president Kevin McHale said. "He is a player who can defend and has a nose for the basket."

I like what I saw of Reed last season with the Wolves, for the kind of player he'll be...

Wonder if that was with the LLE? Or the vet. min?

"The Timberwolves on Wednesday re-signed restricted free-agent forward Justin Reed to a three-year, $4.5 million contract, moving the team closer to wrapping up its summer shopping. Reed gives the team 13 players under contract, with second-round draft pick Craig Smith expected to become the 14th. The league limit is 15."

"Reed has a player option for the third year of his contract. The Wolves and Reed agreed early in the negotiation process to compromise so a deal could be completed. That meant the Wolves did not have to match any offers from other teams to keep Reed."

"Stack said the signing puts the Wolves "right at" the NBA luxury tax threshold of $65.42 million. That means the Wolves would have to pay a dollar-for-dollar tax if their payroll exceeds that figure."

"Bartelstein said the Wolves have expressed preliminary interest in another client, former NBA center Daniel Santiago, who played last season with Unicaja Malaga in Spain."

So, this does indeed take the Wolves out of the running to get Lorenzen Wright.
