With Ray and possibly Kobe gone next year...

The question was is it "POSSIBLE"?

Of course, it's possible. The better question would come in December or January, when we actually have even a glimmer of an idea of how well various players are going to perform.

Depends on whether they classify Durant as a guard or a forward for All-Star voting purposes.

Actually, it still might not matter:

Kobe Bryant (he gets counted until he's gone)
Steve Nash
Baron Davis
Allen Iverson
Tony Parker (a virtual lock from the coaches if he doesn't get voted in)

That leaves maybe one spot to get settled between:

Deron Williams
Chris Paul
Kevin Martin
Kevin Durant (?)
Manu Ginobili

Can he make it? Sure. I won't be putting the mortgage on it, though...

Odds are looking better for everybody as the West's stars all head East. But Kevin will still have a multi-pronged battle ahead -- not only is he behind the various PGs out West who are the leaders of their various teams (might get a boost if coaches intentionally decide to take an OG instead of a PG), but he's likely to be on a bad team. If the team were going to win 55 then he would have a solid shot to slip in under the Rashard Lewis/Peja exception for good players on good teams. Instead he's stuck on a team which is looking to be about as drab and dreary as any in the West -- will get no hype bonus at all. And without that bonus he'll probably need some injuries to pass up the pack of PGs who are their various playoff teams' straws (as well as holding off guys like Roy coming up from behind).

P.S. Slim, you forgot TMac (Battier is the SF). Kobe, TMac, Nash, A.I., Parker -- if they're healthy they are near locks. Leaving just incredible talent on the outside looking in for maybe one spot. Baron, Paul, Deron etc.

Kevin would have to establish himself as unquestionably the best player on the Kings team to make the Allstar squad, and that is only if he is voted-in by the coaches. He is not old enough to get a "charity spot". If he intends to be the best man on the kings team, he better get hot and stay hot for three months.

There is no way, lol. Unless something happens to T-mac, Kobe, Iverson, Nash, Parker, Baron, Paul, and Deron there is no way he makes it. I can't even remember the last time T-mac, kobe or Iverson ever missed an allstar game, they always make it.

I love martin and all but i can't see him making the allstar game in the near future unless he blows up next season. Maybe when Kobe, Nash, T-mac, and Iverson retire or leave the west; the kings are good again and he is in the prime of this career but not now.

I strongly doubt K-Mart will make the All-Star at all next season no matter what numbers he put up.

Voters decide who gets in, and as long as these world-wide known players are in, K-mart will stay out.

Sad truth is, people wanna see their favorite players hit the floors on the All-Star break, and K-Mart ain't on that popularity level yet

Voters only decide the starting 5. If Kevin continues to improve and does like 24/6 or something I think he'd have a shot.

This is an interesting topic to banter around -

If Kevin takes his game to the next level - I.E. - 25-5-5, 2 steals per game, then sure, he competes for a spot. He would have to if he took his game to the "marginal star" level.

If it stays where it was last year, there is just too much talent in the Western conference for him to make it, at least in the next couple of years.

interestingly enough, I don't think Kevin can take his game up another level, but I've been wrong about him twice before; after his first season, I thought to myself, there is no way this guy ever becomes an NBA caliber player; after his second season, I thought, there is no way this guy does anything more than he did last season (16 points per game).

I've been wrong twice about him, and would love to be wrong again.

Kevin could make the All-Star team as long as he wins games. He's got to hit game winners. He's got to take control of the game in the 4th quarter. He's got to be a pressure player. So far, he's not there yet, imo. He's got the stats, but that ain't enough to get him to All-Star land.

Last offseason when Bonzi wasn't signed alot of ppl jumped on the Kevin Martin bandwagon saying he would pick up the slack and be a 15-18ppg scorer and then there were the nah sayers saying he wouldn't come close to that, that 15ppg would be astronomical. Now here we are 1 year and 21ppg later and he is being doubted on weather he can make the All-Star game. Hmmmmm I wouldn't bet against him. He has done nothing but gotten better every year, month, week, day even so why praytell would you come out NOW in the midst of this offseason and begin to explain why or how he won't make the All-Star game. I am guessing he will make a strong case for himself. Kobe was a starter for 3 years before he averaged over 20ppg this will be Kevins 2nd year as a starter.
