Will Solomon

Entity

Hall of Famer
Not an any questions thread. Just wondering if anybody has changed their mind about this guy since the day we got him in the trade except for me. Starter NO. But we may have found a nice backup if the price is right.

I'd like to say I am pretty please with Soloman, McCants, and Garcia coming off the bench. Throw in a starting pg and a 3rd big to go with Thompson and Hawes and I think we are headed in the right direction. BTW that 3rd big doesn't have to come off the bench. I'd be fine with Thompson coming off the bench for both the 4 and 5 getting 20-30 min as long as the PF is legit.

We have to get rid of Beno somehow of course.

Soloman's a whole lot better than combo guard Bobby Brown if only because Will is actually an experienced NBA level point guard. Kind of like Anthony Johnson on last years Kings, although Soloman at his age seems more talented than that aging vet. It could mean he will be back with the Kings next season since true PG's who can play effectively at pro level are hard to find - and B-Jax will likely be gone. By the same token, McCants has lots of NBA talent but has some baggage it would seem and what he can do is rather redundant with all the Kings wing players and shooters.

Something that I really like about Soloman is that he is a consistent 3pt threat. He hasn't been here that long, but he does help stretch the defense.

He remains just a guy. And an older guy too. In his second season...except his first was 7 years ago and he's 30 now. You always need a backup PG, so if we like this just a guy and want to bring him back, fine. If we toss him and want to bring in a better just a guy, or a younger prospect who might one day be more than just a guy, that's fine too. Its hard to get too worked up about a guy and position (backup PG) who might average 5-6ppg for you over the course of a season. The only big rule on this one is that he is NOT worth giving him some multiyear guaranteed contract that chews into potential cap room. Not for a just a guy backup PG. So if we are still playing the 2010 caproom game after this offseason, 1 yr, tops, or we need to find somebody else.

As an aside -- tonight was pretty much his career game (he once scored more points back in 2001-02, but never has shot like that from three). So don't hold your breath expecting it every night.

I didn't realize he was 30. Eh oh well.

Actually, he's never been much of a three point shooter (he got is career high of 5 made threes last night), so it's actually sort of surprising how he was shooting it with great accuracy. One of his faults was his lack of shooting range...but hopefully this is the sign of better things to come, for him.

We threw a contract at a guard that was similar to him a few years ago; not very offensive, plays defense(not really)around 30...his name was Jason Hart...and we all remember how THAT turned out.

If he plays like he did last night 90 % of the time, then I say resign him for very very very cheap. If he's not willing then see ya. His loss.

However, ONLY for a backup pg. If we have Beno as our backup assuming we get a FA or draft a starter - then Solomon is worthless on this team.

Actually Jason Hart never had a scoring reputation...ever. The guy was just an all-around offensive liability. I actually remember Solomon in Memphis back in the early 2000s--guy was a wild, horribly inefficient scorer. But at least he wanted to score. And he was a scoring superstar in Europe who drastically became more efficient as he lost some of his early athleticism. So I'm not really surprised about his scoring (he has that pedigree), but the three point bombing did surprise me.

Hey, it's like I said yesterday, if the dude wants to play for $1 mill a season, I say cool, but if he wants any more than that...PEACE!

I see that he played well last night, but that was just 1 game. He really is nothing to get excited about, IMO. I still say he's outta here at the end of the season.

I'd like him to be a back up pg for us next year expecially if Bobby retires.
off the record though how sucky was Beno for us this year? If a 36 years old Bobby and 30 years old career benchwarmer are both much more valuable than him.

Yeah, he's a minimum player all the way. He's got solid scoring and passing skills as a backup, but that's the extent of it--he's already 30, and there's no potential to bank on for any $ further than that. I suspect these games will be few and far between, but 5-7 pts and 2-4 assists off the bench sounds reasonable for a player of his caliber.

If the Kings want to tank again next season, Solomon could be the backup point guard to help make it happen.

Personally, I'd rather see him be someone else's 12th man.

I agree. He is showing how inconsistent he is tonight against washington. I would rather get a yonger, quicker pg that can push the tempo.
