Will Rajon Rondo Boom or Bust with the Kings?

Wow I just thought that was fantastic - thanks drk!! Education for me. The double-teams off Rondo without consequence are a bit of a concern I guess, but I think he gives so much more in terms of BBIQ than he takes away with poor shooting. I don't expect the lazy turnovers when the games count.

Hey Kings fans. I made a video breakdown taking a look at Rondo's performance in the preseason. What are your thoughts on how he's looked?

Always like your video, Coach Daniel. Good job on the Rondo assessment. I think it's spot-on.

I like the way you do the Analysis, well done. A couple of points where I differ with you is predicting Rondo to be a Top 15 or 20 PG. I think if you are just taking into account his offense that would be correct. But he does so much more than that. On offense with the assists and keeping things moving. On the defensive side he is always on the opponents point of attack. His ability to defend all the good PG's in the Western Conference is a big upside. Especially when taken into account that Collison comes off the bench for a great one two punch for defensive PG's.

Also I thought Rondo was productive in Boston. The C's improvement had more to do with the players brought in than Rondo's leaving. Dallas was what it was.

I think where Rondo will make the biggest difference is his ability to lead on the floor, he is a true floor general and hopefully it rubs off on Cousins because if you have a vocal PG and a vocal anchor in Cousins, that is the backbone of good defense.

Very education video, I think you we're spot-on, aside from one point that you made, Daniel.

You touched on the fact that sometimes, teams will completely lay off of Rondo on pick and rolls, daring him to shoot. You mentioned that you'd like to see him avoid taking that shot, however, I'd like to see an aggressive Rondo make those teams pay. Make or miss, a big part of Rajon's shooting struggles that have plagued his career are mental, and I don't want to see that hesitation from our floor general. By no means do I consider Rondo an outside threat, but I do believe he can make the mid-range jumpshot with enough consistency to keep the defense honest. Just my two cents.

Rondo is probably the most talented player in the entire league when it comes to read opponents' offensive games and to disrupt their passing lines. He's an outstanding talent for defensive roaming and his rebounding rate, given his height is just ridiculous.

Opponents used to sag off Doug Christie to double Webber. When that happened Chritie would cut toward the basket leading to a layup assisted from Webber. Rondo could benefit from that if Cousins is doubled high and with Rondos passing ability if a defender leaves his man to guard the cutting rondo he should be able to find the open man

Thanks for the responses and I'm glad many of you enjoyed the video. A few responses I'll touch on.

- King Baller I agree he is a slightly above average defender and that's big in the west. That said I don't think he is a great defender as he is not like Patrick Beverly super aggressive guarding the ball. That said I'm not too concerned about his gambling if he can make it worth it by getting steals and forcing havoc.

- Team_Dime I agree the mental game is very important in shooting, but I don't think that is Rondo's problem. I just think he's a poor shooter and that has been proven throughout his whole career. He actually shot it confidently in in the pre-season from what I saw but still didn't hit it at a competent rate.

- Entity I completely agree. Cutting is crucial especially for a non-shooter like Rondo. A skill he needs to master.

I say neither...he will show spurts of boom but through out the season , I feel he will be steady enough to help the Kings win some games
