why the kings can still contend

Here's a hopeful sound:

*crumple crumple crumple*

That's the sound of every other league in the team throwing away their now-useless scouting reports on the Kings that they've been compiling all season.

Yeah, we don't know yet how our complete, healthy, practiced new roster will play (since they haven't had the chance yet), let alone how to effectively play against them, but by the same token no one else does either.

And maybe with our new-found depth, Adelman can do enough creative rotational razzmatazz to keep them guessing through the playoffs.

Yeah, I'm a dreamer. I have these visions of Manu Ginobli unexpectedly running smack dab into the brick wall that is Brian Skinner. Win or lose, should be fun to watch.

Think I mentioned this elsewhere -- our rebound edge is almost soley due to the efforts of Mo Evans in place of Cat -- Cat goes about 3rebs a game, Mo in the last two games has been at 11.5rebs a game as an OG. Pretty remarkable, and an extra 8.5 a game for us from an unexpected source.
It would be interesting if RA had the cajones to sit the Cat down while Mo collects all those rebounds...imagine...the Sacramento Kings getting offensive rebounds! And dunking in traffic?????

That's an idea...have Cat and Bobby Jackson come off the bench for a wild and crazy second group...I don't think it will happen, but its an idea. Pair those two with Corliss and KT and Skinner for the second team...interesting.

Can they contend? Well, I guess they can contend in the same way a 6+ seed can "contend" in the NCAA tournament. If you are in the big dance, you technically have a chance...but I wouldn't hold off on making any vacation plans in mid-May or anything like that.

that is quite a good second team, guessing u would have bibby, evans, peja, songalia and miller starting. they would provide a lot of energy when the first five get tired

I agree completely. The unknown factor for all the teams we face between now and the end of the season is HUGE. Years of playing against the same core players allowed opponents the luxury of pretty much being able to predict, at least in part, what they'd face when playing the Kings. That all stopped - and teams like Portland and Phoenix, who still have to play us twice more, have to be scratching their heads trying to figure out what AND who they're going to face.

Well, not sure what would happen, but if Mo was actualyl an 11.5rebs a game guy think even Rick would get around to trying that at some point. But realistically, he's nowhere near that, and just has gotten a bug up his behind these last couple of games. Those are back to back career highs and he's been around all season + has even started several games for us before. Wouldn't surprise me if he could get 6 or so from the OG spot if he was the starter due to size and athleticism, but 11.5 is a bit much. And if its 6, it becomes a bit like starting Matt Barnes over Peja to get those extra 3-4rebs a game. You'll get them and help your rebounding, but is the overall package worth it?

I'm sure Adelman really pounded it into Mo that he was going to have to rebound the ball big time b/c he obviously won't replace Cat with shooting.

For one thing, I somehow feel scouting reports CourtJester is talking about don't actually get that serious till the very end of the regular season...if I'd have to guess, and that's off course the only thing I can do, I'd say during the 82-games period opponent scouting is pretty rough, basic facts mostly...once you get down to the playoffs, or some time before you definitelly find out who your PO opponent is, the real thing starts...but that's just my idea of it...
On the Mo Evans subject, if he continues to play and hustle like he did these past few games, I say stick with him if the locker-room can handle it...
