Why are the Kings so bad? What happened?

I have been to one game this year because I got free tickets at work. I was very lucky because the Kings won. I keep checking the scores and the Kings lose almost every game. They had the rookie of the year last year and everyone seemed happy with the draft this year. So why are we worse than ever? I need a reason to watch the games. I got satilite this year and Dish dropped CSN so I can't see the games on TV even if I wanted to.

The Kings used sell out every game even when they where losing. Whay happened? Ticket prices? Getting robbed by the league and the Lakers of a championship (at least it felt that way)?. The economy?
 
I think the biggest reason is that fans got spoiled during the Webber/Divac years. They're no longer content to show undying support for a bad team. Combine that with the economy, folks getting sick of The Kings cost cutting mentality, all the DUI's, and all the uncertainty over The Kings future in Sacramento and it's a recipe for a dwindling fanbase.

As for why they’re losing so much, they’re just simply not that good right now. They’re a young team that lacks veteran leadership, lacks starting caliber players at several positions, and 1 through 12 has one of the least talented rosters in the league.

With another high draft pick coming and lots of cap space to use, they will get better. They potentially have one of the brightest futures of any team in the league if they can stay injury free, develop their young talent, and add some proven veteran talent. But the question is, will they still be in Sacramento when those things happen or will some undeserving city get to enjoy the good times after Sacramento fans suffered through 5+ years of failed attempts at rebuilds?

i know u cant watch games but i really really dislike it when ppl base how good the kings are off of the win loss record. imo kings just lack the veteran leadership to help keep order and close out games. once they get that things will start looking up again and we will not have so many games like yesterdays where we completely blow up in the second half. next time if ur going to post something like this especially on a kings fan forum then at least take the liberty to do more research than looking at the final score.

What type of research could one who hasn't seen the games do that would tell them that the team is better than their record may suggest? You'd have to have seen the games to know that.
 
look at stats, recaps/postgame interviews on youtube, read newspaper articles. im sure thats not too much to ask if someone is going to make assumptions like this.

You're at least a month too late with your question. The Kings are on an upward path now and discussion of our misery from the opening of this season until the end of the year is hurtful and not useful. Now we just need to keep healthy and continue to get in better shape and the going will be better.
 
A fan needing a reason to watch a game is an oxymoron. A fan needs no other reason than being a fan. If you need someone to talk you into watching games, then you're not really a fan in the first place, and are instead asking for a reason to be a fan.

It's fans like this who will contribute to the Kings moving. They have no clue what is going on with the team, only look at the boxscores the next morning, and assume the team has hit rock bottom with no hope in sight. Given you, siranthony have internet, which is proven by your post and account, all the information you need is available online, if you care enough to look.

No one answering the original question?

We're a team of role players with a couple, very young stars-maybe-someday in Tyreke (who has been injured and didn't improve his jump shot) and Cousins, who still has a long way to go.

Add to that the arena stuff and lackluster attendance and you have the ingredients for a bit of a malaise.

There've been signs lately though!

Lack of veteran leader resulting in delayed growth of young players and lack of basketball savvy, coaching decisions that have not allowed for building of a cohesive unit, and not having Aaron Afflalo
 
Why? I simply believe that they don't have enough talent. That is why I am hoping for a top 3 pick in this years draft and hopefully after this years draft we can stop talking about being in the top 3 in the lottery because I assume whoever we draft will be able to contribute very nicely to our team whether it's one of the Jones' or Irving or Knight.
 
pee poor rotations, no Jon Brockman and yes, no Nocioni!

This team certainly has talent to be where we expected to be at the beginning of the year.

It's called being one of the youngest teams in the league with it's core based around quite possibly the two youngest combined.
 
I think some of the losing might be due to the Salary Cap Gambit they are trying to do. There are not very many talented veterans on this team. They have the lowest payroll in basketball. They have the cap space to acquire a lot of talent for next season. They need 2 or 3 pieces from the free agent market as well as another good draft pick to turn this thing around. With the young core they have and some hired mercenaries, they might become competitive next season. I like what I am seeing from Cousins. He is gonna be good. Evans healthy is a good player. Lets see how they look next year this time after spending the money the Maloofs promised to spend. AND if the Maloofs DON'T spend the money like they promised, then Lets see how empty the LOW Power Balance Neckless Arena becomes?

We have last year ROY!!!! We have #4 pick form this year!!!!
Young players need coaching, they need patience and they need clear rotation (something that doesn't exist this year).

The sad fact is that the players (most of them at least) just don't care anymore. And this comes from million different reasons like the rumors of moving to another city, bad coaching (as - again), or just lack of chemistry in the team.

And how exactly is that a fact? When watching the 1st half vs Det, or the entire game vs NY, you thought you were watching a team which doesn't care? My guess is it's more of an assumption on your part, which you made from your couch, with no factual basis whatsoever.
 
This is probably not the place to be making this argument, but what the hell I'll play devils advocate.

Whats so wrong with being a casual sports fan? Why is supporting a team implicitly the only reasonable response of a "real fan"? This is in the end entertainment and for someone with limited resources, of time and money, whats wrong with wanting to use them on a quality product? To the hardcore the quality of the product doesn't matter, but whats so great about that? So someone puts sports in the same category as other entertainment and only checks it out when they are reasonably sure it will be entertaining. Seems fair.

A lot of you, my self included, have become emotionally invested in this team. The Kings have become more then just mere "entertainment" and a lot of you are proud of that, but why? I'll root for the King's no matter what, but when I meet a casual fan who ask for more I don't think "whats this *******s problem". I'm pretty sure he's the reasonable one in this situation.

Last of all you need fans like the OP. They fill up arenas and their money spends just like yours. If the Kings want to be successful then they have to find a way to put a product out there that will appeal to a fan like Siranthony. To simply blame the casuals, or as Rainmaker put it "It's fans like this who will contribute to the Kings moving" is in my opinion bull****. How about instead of blaming fans for not being passionate enough we hold the organization accountable for not giving fans like Anthony a product worth consuming. This is going to be 3 straight years of sub 30 wins, and you want to blame the consumer for not coming out? The product isn't good so the average consumer isn't interested, the fault is with the producer not the consumer here.

While the above quoted text is true, why does it seem as though you use the term "role player" as a negative? I think that inexperience and, generally, substandard coaching have been the two biggest factors in the disappointing performance of a team that is, at least on paper, better than the team that was here last year. But, hey, while the youth is defnitely a factor, the way the team is constructed is not, in my opinion. Two stars and a bunch of role players? Many a championship has been won like that...

I also agree with pretty much everything Henkel said. I don't like it, but I agree with it.
 
Webber's knee. Lots of what has followed flows directly from the injury and contract he had at the time. That and MSE trying to hang on too long and not blow it up sooner.

Er..that is about the LAST thing you get from these games. They are playing hard, battling to the end. Frustrated to be sure, but this isn't a team that shows any sings of having quit. Being frustrated/having no confidence (in themselves or their coaches) = possible.
 
Might take some time bro.

In my opinion, DMC and Reke, our stars, have a clash in style when it comes to offense. Thats going to take some time to figure out, but i think were getting there inch by inch.
 
They might clash right now, but if Tyreke ups his inside passing skills and Cousins learns where to be at the right time their styles will actually complement.
 
To whatever extent that Evans and Cousins have a styles clash, it probably has to do with the fact that Evans has never played with a star-level big before, and Cousins has only played thirty or so games with a star-level guard before this season. And, seeing as how they were both "one year and out" players in college, they're both largely still accustomed to having to do everything themselves. I'm confident they'll figure it out.
