Whose gonna be the next Hawes?

To call Baja a joke, shows profound ignorance. He's not only one of the nicer members here, but also has proven his knowledge time and time again. Everyone doesn't always agree, and many times members have different opinions and thoughts on various topics, but to call one of the absolute most knowledgeable members here, who's repeatedly taken the time out to form numerous well thought out posts/threads for everyones benefit, really comes across as uninformed.

BTW, it's you're a joke, not your a joke. Apostrophe separates and abbreviates the you and are, buddy.

This was a note that didn't need to be written for two major reasons:

  • Everybody knows this to be true and
  • the person you directed the note to just might not be capable of understanding.
As to the last point, we all screw up and unfortunately these types of errors seem to no longer be a focus of modern teaching.

And yet once again sactownfan manages, with a couple of intentionally provocative comments, to derail a thread and make it about himself. I shouldn't have taken the bait and I regret doing so. I'd like to suggest we all just ignore his comments and continue with the discussion. That way, our blood pressure remains at acceptable levels, no feelings get hurt, and he loses.

Just my two cents...

Why not admit you hated Hawes from day one and never had anything good to say about him?

Hawes HAS improved his game and your allegation that "his attitude was despicable. he was a diva that hadn't done anything" is totally without basis in fact. He may not have fit in but it wasn't because he was a diva. If anything, his outspoken political views may have alienated some but he did not have a despicable attitude.

I was not 100% happy about the Hawes pick initially but was 100% down with Hawes. 24hours after he was drafted... i was super down with Hawes starting his rookie year and expected him to be good or even great...

before i start... this thread is stupid and its absurd that anyone would want this guy back.... if anything i want Sammy D back! he's what we actually need.

I felt betrayed by his sense of entitlement, selfishness, lack of effort, laziness, and softness...

i have no issues with players pursuing education... however Hawes FIRST OFFSEASON WAS WASTED DUE TO HIS RIGOROUS SCHOOLING! He said during an interview mid offseason that he was so busy that he hadn't really been working on his game or playing ball.... DUDE!!! ARE YOU SERIOUS!!! the kings are paying you millions and this isn't your priority???!!!!

you wanna work on your next career so soon?!?!? some do online classes during the season... great!! doesn't mess with improving your game! some get degrees after they retire!! great! doesn't mess with improving your game! Hawes !?!?! he puts basketball on hold his first offseason!?!? what a douche bag ... he could easily have done this a few years down the line... say after he established himself... but no ... he put himself first...

Kobe, Lebron they put THEIR CAREER FIRST... they can always go back to get a college degree later if they want...

anyway this school thing isn't the main reason i can't stand Hawes... but it was just the beginning of the end of this joker...

This is more about how Hawes developed after he left here than it is about our trying to sign him. Some of us simply noted how much he had improved. Others decided to turn this into a polarizing thread. There are plenty of players in the league that don't appeal to me for whatever reasons. But that doesn't mean I won't give them credit where credit is due. If you were condemned for life with whatever label you had at age 21, I doubt you would think that fair. People, and players evolve. That evolvement can go in both directions, and should be noted either way, but in general, most players tend to improve over time.

How many times have you seen a player that had the reputation of not being a good shooter, come in after 3 or 4 years in the league and just kill us from the outside. And you sit there wondering why he got so lucky against us? Well he didn't! He got better. It just that no one noticed. Thats all I'm doing here. I'm noticing that Hawes has improved into a player that looks like an NBA player. We don't live in the past. And those that do, tend to get their heads handed to them by the present.
