Bibby or Udrih?

A few stats of theirs from this season:

Bibby: PPG15,7 RPG3,10 APG5,0 TO1,5 SPG1,5 FG45% 3PT44% FT79%

Beno: PPG12,9 RPG3,30 APG5,3 TO2,91 SPG1,2 FG48% 3PT27% FT83%

ugh... beno is a scrub... he should be fighting with bobby brown for minutes... i like him but he's a scrub...

Bibby always was a shooting PG and had his best years with the Kings. Beno is the here and now and will do just fine as he learns the role more and gets some experience under his belt. He is bigger, taller and 5 or 6 years younger. And there is no magic bullet rookie coming down the pike who will help any more next year. I like him and think he will do well considering the situation.

And at the end of the day all of the above would look like scrubs, with this fine selected, highly motivated and flawlessly coached crew they supposed to lead.

Bibby needed to get out of Sacramento and have a fresh start, it just wasn't working out for him to be a King anymore...so far (this year at least), he's playing great for the Hawks...but let's not forget that he is playing for a new contract, as well.

Kenny Smith believes that Bibby is and has been the top shooting point guard in the league for the past 7 years

So is Beno. And Bibby btw is quietly having one of his best seasons right now with the Hawks. And he actually never had a problem with ball-handling

Seeing how well Mike is playing this year how bad Beno struggles as a starting pg make me question the value of the trade...

Jerryd Bayless.

But I agree with Vlade4GM completely. Signing Beno (to a long term contract) was a mistake, but trading Bibby was the right move, so neither one of them.

I'm happy that Mike is playing well in Atlanta, but I'm even more happy that he is out of Sacramento. I'll admit that I wasn't too pleased with what we got from Bibby as we wasted our pick, and our 'kid' has not panned out.
With that said, trading Mike was the first sign that we were actually going to begin making moves for our future, and for that reason alone it was a good trade.
While I agree that Beno's play has been disappointing. With that said he is still young, his contract isn't obscene, and I think the hope should be that he makes a quality back-up off the bench, or a decent trading piece 2+ years from now. We'll see....and at least his inconsistent play is helping our draft position a bit.

The one really good thing about his play has been this:
It's clear that he isn't going to be the starting piece we need when we start to compete at an elite level. So Petrie should be looking towards finding an elite point-guard for our future. Now, if Beno were playing really well, or hinting at being more than he is, it could end up being fool's gold and we could of found ourselves in a position in relying too much on him for our future.
So, hopefully Petrie knows that Beno isn't going to be our answer there and makes moves accordingly.
And that is another reason why trading Bibby was so important. If he had stayed and ended up having a good close to last year and a great year this year, we might be tempted to continue on with him when we should have been looking to find a younger PG to groom for our future team.

The trading of Bibby and the acquisition of Beno are apple's and oranges. By that, I mean that the only relationship is that both players happen to be pt guards. One was not traded for the other, and no one, or at least I never thought of the two players as being comparable. Beno was thought to be the best pt available at the time, along with the hope that he might become a full time NBA starter. The jury, me thinks, is still out.

beno is not a starting caliber pg.... period... he would be a great back up if he didnt cost so much... bibbys contract is up this year so i dont see what we gained in trading him for shelden/wright/johnson...

If the teams objective was to get rid of his salary for tax relief, then they probably did that, since Johnson and Wright are gone. Sheldon will be gone after this year. Bibby wasn't going to be part of the future, so he was going to go at some point. I will admit that we didn't get much for him. I do think that at this point, one could say nothing, isn't much.

and to think, instead of Quincy Douby we could have had this guy

Problem solved...

I was unhappy with Bibby and really liked Beno last year, when healthy. Beno also gets paid a lot less, so I picked him.
