Who is a fan of THIS team not matter where they end up?

Will you follow this team anywhere?

I'm not voting, because I don't know right now. It just hurts to much. However, it's the Kings or no team, probably. I hate the Warriors so that's not an option.

Also, I pretty much grew up in the LA area. Lived in Anaheim, too, but too young to remember much about living there. I lived in Glendale, Canoga Park and Palos Verdes. Was a rabid Dodger fan and it's still my preferred baseball team, tho I don't follow baseball much.

Now I am a NoCal resident for 40+ years, I do know what I'm talking about when I say I quite dislike LA and sometimes hate it. The Lakers didn't have anything to do with it, but when I became a Kings fan, it was just an additional reason to dislike SoCal. I do "hate" the Lakers.

perception is everything. and in this case, perception and reality happen to line up. the kings are considered beneath the lakers because they are beneath the lakers, not to mention the rivalry history that informs this writer's particular viewpoint. of course an OC sports writer is going to wax poetic and insultingly about the kings potential arrival in southern california. however, kobe's not gonna be an mvp candidate forever. in fact, his downturn will likely coincide with tyreke evans' and demarcus cousins' emergence as a powerhouse duo that stomps the opposition nightly. there's going to be a lot of nose-thumbing and pointed cynicism at the start, but winning tends to change all that...

why have the clippers always been considered lakers lite? its because they lose, which is because of donald sterling's unwillingness to shell out dollars. if the clippers had an owner who was willing to pay for a team that could close the gap between themselves and the lakers in the win/loss column, wouldn't perception change? they would be competitive in-house rivals, instead of the presently perceived abusive father and red-headed step child relationship. but with two other teams already splitting the market share, the maloofs will have no choice but to spend the money they've cleared in cap space, which they're wont to do anyway. their survival in anaheim depends on their ability to field a winning team. after they've solidified a fan base, the typical ups-and-downs of an nba franchise won't effect them as much, because anaheim is a wealthy area that can support a team through difficult stretches. but with tyreke evans, demarcus cousins, a 2011 lottery pick, and 2011 free agent signings, i expect that the wins will come sooner rather than later, especially if anaheim basketball fans shows up to the honda center in droves...

the sacramento bee sports writers have always reflected the small-town pride and cynicism of their audience. but in anaheim, i expect the sports writers will swing with the perception. if the fans show up to the honda center, if support and optimism for the kings builds in that area, expect the sports writers to follow...

The Lakers have 17 titles and along with the Celtics are the gold standard of the NBA. Remember when Kobe was going to sign with the Clippers? Hahaha.

You're going to move these guys into the region with this team so that they wouldn't even have to change zip codes if the Lakers back up the money truck? I bet the endorsement money will always be better for the Lakers.

There are all kinds of ways this could backfire and why this is a terrible idea.

Thought long and hard but moving to Anaheim is just too much for me. KC, even Louisville... sure. But moving to a regional rival, taking shh from Lakers fans for almost a decade living in SoCal, it's just too much. One thing to move, another thing to extend the middle finger when doing so.
I actually think this will intensify the rivalry, especially if the Kings are able to maintain any of their colors/theme.

It may intensify the rivalry for people in the region, I don't know what it does for native Sacramentans. It certainly does nothing for me as a native living outside the area. I will no longer be able to see someone with Kings gear and go up to them and ask them if they are also from Sac, etc. Now it will just have me wondering how long before the Blazers bolt for Seattle or something stupid like that.

But what if they completely change their theme/name/colors? Would you still be?

Yes, because I've been a fan for 12 years and I live in LA. I don't buy into the norcal vs socal thing. A team is a business, an organization that happens to play in a particular city.. to me at least. I liked the Kings when I got into the NBA and I've been loyal.

I never wavered when my friends would "clown" me about being a Kings fan in lakerland. I take it right back at them. I'm a fan of the team + the past and current players.

Huh? Thats a bad analogy.
Why? For me their presence in Sacramento was the sacred tie that bonded me to the team. So if they choose to leave my hometown it isn't really a matter of me choosing not to be a fan as much as them leaving me behind.

Had Lukenbill brought the Atlanta Hawks to town I'd be a Hawks fan today.

It applies to you but not to me. You said it to me so it didn't make sense for my situation.

Applies to many of us and while I can accept that you and others do not share that stance it really stings to have our "fandom" questioned, which is what many of these polls and other posts seem to do.

But until the lights go out, for better or worse they are my team.

I'm not questioning any of your loyalty or how much of a fan each person is. I wrote in another thread that I do believe non sacramento residents should try to be more sensitive towards the actual residents because I can only imagine how I would feel. But for this situation, no need to read too much into each post. Its just a straightforward response. Keep on fighting, but I do hope that if the Kings do move, some of you will still support the team. Because we are all a part of the team's on going history.

I didn't mean to say you specifically were, but a lot of these posts and threads seem designed with exactly that in mind and it gets on my nerves and there really isn't anything that can change that, unfortunately.

I would not wish ill will on any of the players. I'd love to see DMC succeed because I like his game. I cannot root for the team because of the owners and because I am only a Kings fan because I was born and raised in Sacramento. The NBA as a league is falling into an deep dark hole, and with no local team to support there is little reason to watch it.

The Kings will not be the Kings if they move, and I don't mean just the name change. A good part of the Kings identity comes from the city's identity. The Thunder are not the Sonics in any way, shape or form. The Royals would not be the Kings to anyone. There would be no history and no brand.

Yeah, this is the truth right here.

......... Enough said right there
What, that I was a Laker fan when I was 10 years old before my pops took me to Kings games and made me a Kings fan? OMG stop the presses! The only time I hated the Lakers is when the Kings played against them. BFD.. I bleed Kings and have for 20+ years.

I am not going to follow the Lakers like I did the Kings when they were here in Sac. Probably be more of a "player" fan than anything. Guys like Martin, Love, Cousins, Pau, and Kobe.

No no and no, imagine your wife leaving u for your brother who u despise. Although i understand the business sense here, and that an arena should have been built years ago, i like mike singletary cant , and wont do it. As a lifelong Norcal resident i root for all the local teams , Giants Niners and Kings, moving to the rival market is just to much. I've been to socal many times had great times, this is a sports rivalry nothing more. Me and fellow Kings fans have talked about where do we go from here, what team to root for? Warriors are the logical choice, as of now not sure. If they do move i wish upon the kings a babe ruth like curse.
