Who Do You Blame?

Grant was wrong. The lineup on the floor was Duncan, Parker, Finley, Van Exel and Horry. Someone was going to be open... you don't blame Peja for that.

It was a valiant effort, but if I was to blame something, it’s that we have no shotblockers and SA took advantage of that. Even though the play was designed to open up the paint by drawing everybody out and placing shooters on the perimeter, the guy on Duncan (Miller) should still be able to attempt a block from the weak side so that our perimeter guys don't have to sag off to stop Parker from an easy layup.

Bibby wasn't in the game on that possession. Hart was guarding Parker, and Bonzi was on Finley. Parker was on the left wing, got the step on Hart (Duncan tried to set a screen, but it was a little late), and Bonzi left Finley to seal off the paint by saggin off to about the free throw line. By now, it comes down to whom to take your chances on? Horry, Finley, or Van Excel. Out of the three, Van Exel is shooting 29.4 percent behind the arc this season.

I don't blame Peja, but had he rotated over to Finley earlier, it'd force Parker to make a tougher pass to Van Exel in the corner.

well id blame peja for this. he never scores in the fourth quarter at all. he had 8 points at halftime and 14 points at the end of the game. and for someone who is a great freethrow shooter he never gets to the line. that is not acceptable. HE MUST BE TRADED!

Yeah, we got it. You said it 11 times, if you count the duplicate threads I deleted.

Sorry, Bonzinator.

On SA's game wining last play Peja was watching Van Exel spotting up in the corner and as Parker took the inbounds pass he drove accross the key where Bibby dropped off of Finley to stop Parker's penetration leaving Finley open for a pass and open 20 footer. It's nothing new, our whole starting 5 always drop off their men and leave them open for jumpers because they cannot react fast enough to stop penetration and don't rebound well enough so they cheat back to the key to get an edge on the rebound. Been doing it for years and everyone knows it. Part of our fundamental pattern of weakness.

Even if you wanted to blame this game on FT %, bad first quarter or whatever the key reason is that our middle is always vulnerable and none of our guys is willing to knock someone like Parker on his behind when he comes in their with his weak stuff...or, at the very least, do a side step and get in front of him and not just reach with their arms. Soooooooo frustrating to watch game in and game out.

It's just as frustrating, as a matter of fact, as watching them shoot jumper after jumper when both Bonzi and SAR can post up, move inside and draw fouls. Might have been nice, even with the abysmal FT% last night, to see the Kings actually capitalize on the penalty situation instead of just frittering it away.

I agree VF21, but I think a basket denied on defense is easier that having to make a basket, assuming your players really want to play defense...80% of defense is mostly effort and desire, the rest pure talent. But RA and the Kings, in general, are an offensive minded team that pays lip service to defense but routinely tolerates defensive lapses with the goal of outscoring the opposition in an offensive fashion. Perhaps my viewpoint is colored by my own experience where I was more defensive minded...since I was "offensively challenged"!

I understand what you're saying.

It was simply so aggravating last night to see the Kings pretty much playing the Spurs effectively at their own game and then - for reasons known only perhaps to themselves - they just GAVE AWAY the one thing handed to them on a platter. You don't put a team like the Spurs in the penalty with virtually the whole final quarter left to be played very often. When you are able to do it, you have to capitalize on it. I saw too many quick jumpers with obviously no thought whatsoever to the opportunities they were simply allowing to elapse without nary a glance.

Win or lose, I'm just happy that this team is starting to look like a team. Yeah it's been a terrible month, but with the exception of the pistons, the last five games they've looked much better. I still maintain that this team will hit it's stride mid season. Hopefully that won't be too late to make the playoffs.

If its mid-season, then we'll land up something like 40-42, which in the West, is definetely not good enough for the playoffs.

blame artest...anything bad that happens has to be his fault...

at least thats the way it is here in indy right now ;) :D

I blame Petrie for keeping the roster and coach in place. He can't think this team can contend? He can't.

Phil Jackson made a vicious stir in LA last night over McGrady getting all the way to the hoop to win the game last night without any defensive help. Can you imagine what Jackson would do with the King squad? They allow 5-15 uncontested layups a game. At least.

Either the personnel or coach must cause a change in this serious shortcoming. When neither changes, we must point the blame at Mr. Petrie for standing pat against a bunch of better hands around the table.

As valiant an effort as the Kings put forth against San Antonio, I fully expect them to lose tonight. I blame Petrie for what is about to transpire.

obviously you have no clue my friend. Bibby was on finley, and pedja was on van ex. when bibby moved in to the paint(??) he left finley wide open and pedja was trying to switch from van ex to finley...and was late. even if he moved there sooner van ex would be wide open. Pedja did have miserable game again, but he should not be blamed for SA scoring on last possesion.

Nice copy/paste.

What is a forum like this for if we all just come on and say "well, better luck next time!"

Ugh.

Message boards exist for fans to express the whole gamut of emotions. People will come here to vent, to cry, to laugh, to cheer, etc. It's why message boards exist.

The players on the court are paid professionals. They don't live or die because of fan criticism. If they don't play well, they expect AND deserve to hear criticism. They're making obscene amounts of money to play a game. We, the fans, are the ones kicking in those hard-earned bucks so they can live a dream. We're entitled to be critical.

If Petrie doesn't change the line-up - and fairly soon - you're going to see a lot MORE criticism around here.

We're paying money for a product. The product in this case is a game of basketball. If we don't think we're getting our money's worth, we're certainly going to complain. It's the American way.

;)

Agree. Pay me what they get paid and I'll even let the fans throw rotten fruit at me! :D

Well, when you lose to the bobcats w/o brevin knight and partially without Emeka okafor and felton's playing on a sprained ankle AND Kareem Rush goes out AND your best player gets injured there's not a lot of positive stuff to say:o . Anyways I don't think you have to worry about people letting go of the kings, just because the team is doing badly right now doesn't mean people will jump ship(well some will, others won't, don't think people at kingsfans.com will).

ugh...this game friggin sucked.

First, welcome to Kingsfans.com

Don't be discouraged by what you're seeing around here. We may criticize them, but we love the Kings. That's why we're still here. ;)

Take some time and get to know us. I think you'll find we really are Kings fans. We're like parents who might not be happy with their child's latest report card. We want them to try a lot harder but we're not gonna stop caring about them.

:D

Every single one of us was a rookie at one point in time.
