Where are the 8 votes?

I agree with #3 wholeheartedly!!!!

I don't quite agree, however, that #1 is "granted as a fact" for the simple reason that owners have to submit their buyers to the BoG for approval.

Bottom line, I totally agree with your conclusion.

:)

I'm going to get picky. I still think 1) is fact. It is sooooo American. The pesky BoG, all owners, are the stumbling block and therefore able to grant 3). We are both correct. Kinda. :)

It's my understanding after the Celtics shares were purchased from the public the NBA changed the bylaws to not allow this type of model.

If he's looking to maximize his sale then he votes no to moving the Kings then tells Hansen he will take the $525. If he doesn't want Hansens money then he could vote to move the Kings.

Yep.

I think you are correct at least about the NBA axing the Green Bay model.

It's not just the NBA but all of pro sports. The Green Bay model was axed decades ago but the Packers remain in GB because their public ownership was already in place. Teams like the Celtics could still share minority shares but a public majority owned team was done away with a long time ago.

As for the Bucks, this is why they are going hard at a new arena now. Like it has been mentioned in this thread, Kohl is old and could pass away with no heirs to grab the team.

OTOH, if the arena thing happens, there are lots of interested ownership groups who would like to take over. The Brewers are in play and previous Memphis owner, Michael Heisley is interested in getting back in the game. He actually wanted to move the Grizz from Vancouver to suburban Chicago but the league nixed it early on as they didn't want to jerk off the Bulls. Having a team in Milwaukee is as close as you'll get to having a team in suburban Chicago so he's rumored to have the inside track.

*puts on foil conspiracy hat*

Personally, I think it will be more than 8 votes against the relocation because of the arena financing, the league seems to favor city and county investment into the arena. The precedent of an Hansen owning his arena could work against the NBA and other leagues. Just thinking of MLB and the Marlins Stadium and NHL Oilers and their new arena as recent examples, owners were able to leverage communities for funding. Another example is Kansas City who have an arena ready for basketball or hockey but a mayor who refuses any public funding towards a franchise.

hmmm which would be the likely 8?

Clippers- just have a feeling he wants the Seattle for himself. He shares an arena with the Lakers to begin with, has a few lawsuits against him and family issues. Just see him selling the Clippers soon.

Hornets/Pelicans- he is aware that the NBA refused to sell them until they had local ownership and the impact of a franchise staying

Warriors- minority owner calls in a favor

Blazers- this one is a bit of a stretch, the Coyotes NHL franchise is ownerless (for 4 r 5 years they have been league owned) but they won't move to Seattle unless they build an arena, he is in rumored to be interested in an NHL team himself

Thunder- he obviously has a negative history with Seattle

Bobcats, Pacers - small market owners who understand community ties

Jazz- know the benefits of being in a 1 team town

....and the original franchises, the teams with history dating back to the Rochester days. Would the Celtics allow their history to be deleted and replaced?

*edit* forgot the part about the NBA owners getting more money from an expansion fee than they would get from a relocation fee. I just can't see many voting for relocation, not for any moral reasons, but because of how the move of the Thunder was portraying the NBA as villains. Stern at the All Star game mentioned that too, I've been convinced since then that the Kings stay.

Good point about the NHL and Portland, it is likely only one team will arrive in the pacific northwest and an arena deal will likely give Seattle the nod. Kind of foolish because Portland supports its WHL team better than Seattle, but there is plenty of precedent with the Sounders.
