What's up with Songaila?

So Ordinary That It's Truly Quite Extraordinary

I noticed in another thread about the Bulls that he was unlikely to return, so I poked around and saw that he is declining the option on his current contract to test the free agent waters again.

Why? He didn't exactly have a stellar season with some injuries and was left off the Bulls' playoff roster. The Bulls seemed to be the only ones that wanted him last year and he still had to take a contract "below market value" as his agent claims. Where would he go now?

He was injured and had surgery. So was out ever since that, not sure how he is now, I assume recovered.

Could see him going to Indiana a team that needs shooting like the Hornets.

back to the kings, baby! i wouldn't mind him coming off the bench (move on down the pine, KT). he's solid and dependable. if we can dump KT and williamson in the next couple of offseaons, all of a sudden we have room for serviceable bigs.

If Songaila wants the full MLE (which it sounds like he does) I don't want him back in Sac.

He'd be a third big here at best. SAR/Songaila/Brad/Potapenko (or even a new back-up C) is medicore FC, like the one we have right now. Basically no athleticism, little rebounding, no shot-blocking, SAR and Potapenko can defend in the post. Little complimentary, also.

I'd only like him here if he's a third big or the other FC guys are defensive players. Need someone to compliment SAR and/or Brad Miller, Songaila is not that. Under that, for part of the MLE or LLE. Ultimately though, I'd rather one of the defensive, athletic bigs from our VSL camp get a third big man spot.

Doubt he's back here, we have other needs going first.

if we could dump thomas and keep bonzi then sure... or if we can just dump thomas....

Unfortunately, I think Darius is going to be one of those guys who bounces around from team to team for probably 8 to 10 years before dropping out of the NBA...

I think you might be right. I'm just curious why he thinks he'll get a better contract coming off of a poor season than he got last season. The option he declined was roughly 2.5 mil, that's well over the LLE. He must have a bad agent.

its all thomas' fault... damn him and his seemingly unmovable contract.... cost us a really good bench player.... adelman wouldnt have gotten fired either, lol....

An the Kings would be playing in their new arena next year, too. Rotten Thomas...

Darius was always overrated aorund here. Decent player. But fundamanetally not what we need. His arrival as the main backup big was actually one of the reasons our defense and rebounding fell off so badly in recent years. His best skills are offensive, and he's small. Poor rebounder, cannot block shots. Good enough to keep on getting him a job year after year around the league, but if you are trying to get serious about winning and need defense and boardwork, he is not the guy.

Darius must want more years added, other wise I don't see how he could get more than half the mid-level anywhere else. He has some nice post moves, but he's not big or strong enough to be effective. He ends up being a jump shooter, and if he goes into a slump, you're in trouble because he doesn't bring much of anything else.
