What would/does the George Karl signing mean to you?

Respect.

Our team gains respect over night by hiring Coach Karl.

Of course it's from the ground up with our FO's antics but whatever. Gotta start somewhere.

It means there will be an NBA professional in the building. It means that Vivek can learn from a guy with real chops. One who's been there; done that.

I hope so. Vivek needs to recognize Karl knows WAY more than he does about NBA and winning on the court - just stay out of his way completely. Karl is around 6-7 years older than Vivek so give him that respect as well.

To me, it just shows the ineptitude of management, as it is a panic move brought on by a series of poor decisions.

I believe they had the intention of letting Malone go after this season was over, and going after a coach in the offseason. I believe that when Malone got the team off to such a hot start (and on pace to compete for a playoff position), they panicked, knowing if they made the playoffs, they wouldn't be able to fire him. This lead them to fire Malone at the first sight of trouble, thus ending the season (on purpose), rather than facing even more wrath after firing him potentially after leading the team to their first playoff appearance in nearly a decade.

Corbin wouldn't have been as good, but I don't think dropping something like 12 of 14 was their idea of how bad it was. Then: more panic set in after squandering any goodwill they had built up with the fanbase with their poor decisions and foresight. Instead of waiting for possibly Thibs or Brooks, they have been pressured into signing a 63 year old coach for 4 years.

I like Karl, I think he's a good coach (for a while), but I don't think this team is in the right place for a coach like him. If this team had been a year or two better, with a first round exit and more talent, then I could see adding him to make a serious run. However, this team is still rebuilding and doesn't have the personnel to compete in the playoffs, and I don't know if Karl can take them where they want to go. Thibs, I think, would be able to bring back the defensive mentality that made the team successful. He could have optimized Boogie's talents, and done the most here methinks. This entire move just screams panic that was caused by poor decision after poor decision.

^^ There is no guarantee that Thibs even becomes available....you have a chance at a HOF coach I don't see how you can't take that chance, 63 years old and all...this team desperately needs some experience in the worst way. WAY too much losing and having a loser mentality year in and year out, even if we don't have Karl long term, there needs to be a positive culture established here and having Karl is a good way to start.

The problem is assuming that:
Thibs would be available, and,
That the FO would want him.

He "may" be available this offseason. The Bulls would be stupid to let him go, but hey, weirder things have happened.

A bigger issue, however, is if the FO couldn't deal with Malone, how would they handle Malone on steroids, both in style of play and abrasiveness.

Love or hate everything as its unfolded. But SERIOUSLY like Cousins said "who can stop Gods plan!"

This FO has been a circus but honestly its all WORKED OUT to make this team so much better. Resigning Cousins, A.I. getting booted from our FA offer, Getting Gay, signing Collision, Signing Casspi, Firing Malone getting us a FOR SURE upgrade in Karl.

Its been rocky but this team really is closer to being a contender than it was last year. BY FAR...

Our record says otherwise. Our star player is in a bad place. Our players are demoralized. The national media has never mocked us more. The fans are in revolt.

Closer to being a contender by far...maybe not.

You would be surprised. I can guarantee you that members in and around the organization are regular visitors of this website, among others.

Derrick Williams visits this website.
So if anyone talks smack on Derrick Williams again...

Right now it means I'll start paying attention to how the team plays out the season. It means I'll be interested in the offseason and probably positively excited in the fall if everything seems to go well. Giving Karl 30 games of this season should shorten the learning curve so I like the timing.

It would feel like that maybe this runaway train is back on its tracks and heading in the right direction. Hopefully the front office learns from this whole, make the organization a laughing stock of the league again, fiasco.

What does the Karl hiring mean? It means there is one adult in the room. Whether the organization listens to that adult is an entirely different question.

I'm thrilled with the Karl hiring. It means I'm renewing my tickets (since I said I would if they signed Karl) - and I'm actually doing it with enthusiasm. I believe Karl can get the team to play at or above November levels starting Feb 20, and while our bench is definitely crappy - Karl is coming in right during trade season... maybe we can make a move or two and bolster the roster. We've PROBABLY tanked sufficiently to get a draft pick next year (although it could be in jeopardy with Karl at the helm now) and for sure the tanking is over. Even if we don't play .500 the rest of this year, it is a teaching year - a 'getting to know you' year - and I'll be fine with that.

If I didn't have skin in the game in the form of season tickets, I'd have maybe been fine watching them train wreck tank the rest of this year, get an even better draft pick, and choose from a different pool of coaches in the off-season. But, I do... I have already paid for the rest of this season... now there is the very real prospect that the rest of the games this year will be worth the money and next year should be a .500 season.

So, to me it means a lot. All of a sudden tickets will be a liquid asset again instead of pure dead money. That's a 'whew' for me. I cannot wait to be at the game Feb 20 that should be a real scene.

Another guarantee...sweet. Since DWill visits the site, hey Derrick, what's your deal? You allergic to defense?

he's position-less meaning he's busy playing multiple positions. he can' be everywhere at once especially when he's going for the cherry pick. #3.2

For me it means that the FO shies away from more risk and goes with a proven coach. This may be a good thing, cause our FO lacks NBA experience. But still I'm worried about the fact, that Karl had problems surviving the first round of the playoffs when coaching Denver and I'm not sure, if Karl is still flexible enough to adjust to the current style of play in the NBA.
We need a coach, that can hold everyone accountable and understands how to use Gay and Cousins on offense without playing 1vs1 basketball all the time, while letting teams beat us with the pass. And despite having a new coach, we still need to improve our roster.
I hope Karl is part of a solid future for the Kings. Would be priceless to finally watch DMC battle in the playoffs.

It means we officially threw this season away, but next season will be the real deal. Real real.

Additionally, it means Mullin will not be the next HC (yippee!!!)

I cant help but see this hiring as an admission by the FO that they had no idea what they were doing and are seeking professional guidance from Karl.

Oh yeah I should have mentioned that to me, it buys the FO a mulligan! A complete do-over for Vivek and Pete.

From the Malone hiring until tonights game have been a nightmare. Late tonight or tomorrow morning, we all wake up and we have a great coach, a strong starting lineup featuring one superstar, a salary cap guru as GM who has made-up/neutralized his biggest specific mistake, and a new arena. Yes our owner is not the kind of guy I'd ever want to work for - an impatient meddler who is customer service illiterate... but things are looking up for the team and I'm not grimacing or frowning when I think about the Kings anymore. I'm hopeful that the smart people who Vivek surrounds himself with, will stop him from doing anything this stupid (Malone firing) ever ever again.

The Malone firing is my only real qualm with this FO and now they've made up for it. It is a big big deal - I don't like hating the Kings FO.
