What to do with Tyreke and Cousins?

I don't totally buy that the 13 was for Evans, but that would be pretty awesome if it was... would mean that the ownership group is already assessing the team heavily enough that they determined they want to re-sign him, and were committed enough to that idea that they made the sly gesture.

While I also don't think there is a connection between the owners wearing 13 and wanting to keep Tyreke, I do think that they would have started evaluating this roster a while ago.

I'm on your side of the argument. I wouldn't want to pay him max but if someone offers him the max, I would think very carefully. Who do you replace him with and what would that person cost.

Kind of as an aside, a max contract isn't the same at this time of Tyreke's career as if he was in his 30's like Kobe. We can't let too many people get away if we seriously want to fight it out for a title.

We can't afford to let anyone with Rekes kind of talent just walk. We'd be beyond foolish. We don't have the talent necessary to just let guys go without proper compensation. And since I don't think we can get equal value, it's best to keep em.

People of high talent don't have us on their short list of destinations. Hopefully, with new ownership that doesn't seem to be allergic to spending money and a state of the art arena to play in, Sacramento will no longer seem like the pits of hell. It will take more than a few years but their first move simply cannot be to let Reke go because they don't want to overspend. To change the horrible reputation we have, we have to show a willingness to spend the green. That's the universal language of basketball players, coaches and GMs. FAs avoid us like the plague and there aren't many ways to improve a team, signing FAs being one of the three. In my view, the other two ways are by the draft and in trade. As we get better, the draft will no longer be a great way of improving. We cannot eliminate one of the three methods and hope to get anywhere. You need to spend money to make money. As much as that may run counter to the businessmen and women on this forum, it IS the hole that has been dug since 1985 when the team was bought and the first two arenas were built on a shoe string budget.

Now that we have a few players who appear to have a great future, we must try our hardest to keep them.

I tend to agree with this. It would be a different story if we had a guy like Klay Thompson behind him waiting, but since we really have nobody else (besides MT) then it might be best to try to get him back at 8-9mil a year. If he doesn't take that then we step back and look at our options again. Maybe MT works out for a year or two at SG (we could do a lot worse).

Right. And although i really like MT, there just isn't much further he can go in terms of the "ceiling". Very serviceable and even explosive at times, but i'm oh so curious to see what Evans can do under a stable regime, or at least what seems to be heading in the direction of stability. Starting everyone out with clearcut roles and responsibilities, will go a long way. Can't wait to see our top 3 coaching/general manger candidates

At some point in the past, that Reke/MT backcourt really got us some real nice basketball.
So I would really be interested how the new regime would utilize Reke and MT before jumping on any wagon.

exactly. lets fill our needs for now (Shotblocker and SF) and lets see how guys like Reke/DMC/MT/IT play under the new management before we decide what to do with any of them
