What is the Greatest Need?

This team needs more solid veteran leadership...first and foremost!
Definitely agreed. While we continue to rebuild, it's important to surround the youngsters - overwhelmed with newfound fame, fortune, temptation and challenges - with solid veterans with great character and work ethics. Guys like Travis Outlaw probably aren't the best idea.

Don't you think, that at the time of the draft, the Kings were in a position where they couldn't afford to choose a player that couldn't play for two years? At least from a PR point of view. Even if they loved Rubio, which apparently they didn't, it would have been a very risky move. As far as Rubio is concerned, I've only seen him play twice so far, and he hasn't exactly blown my socks off. In both games he couldn't hit an outside shot consistently. I'll hold judgement till he's been around the league a few times. Things can change dramaticly once the league figures out what you like to do, and then takes it away. I wish him no ill will. But I'll reserve judgement for a while.
Great points! While a Rubio type player would be helpful, last time I checked, Minnesota had only won 7 games. Those victories are due more in part due to Kevin Love so my point being that Rubio isnt going to put us over the top by himself. Tyreke can fill the pg role for now, so I'm not about to give up the rookie of the year. I think that we need a great small forward more than anything. I'm really disappointed that our front office couldn't make it happen with AK. The signings of Outlaw and Salmons were and still are a joke.

I still think they need a PG and a shotblocker. The SF is the weakest position out of the starting five, but many SFs aren't going to help until the offense gets consistent and that starts with guard play. I like Kidd-Gilchrist, but Kendall Marshall and Terrence Ross are benefits to the Kings roster as it is now.

edit: Not Terrence Ross, though I like Ross, but I am confusing him with a PG that I cannot think of right now.

IMO best fits would be:
PG-Hinrich
SF-Batum
C-Dalembert

Hinrich and Batum will be free agents so its very possible we can sign them next offseason if not earlier via trade. Too bad we cant realistically get Dally because of terrible moves Petrie did this offseason :S
I like this thinking, but would rather grab Miller and Koufos from DEN at a potentially lower cost and then aim for Batum. In that way, you can potentially snare a veteran distributing PG and length in Koufos as well as a true shooting SF. Pipe dream I know, but hey, that's what this forum is for, right?

I don't see them as have any single greatest weakness but rather as having several equal weaknesses of which fixing any one of them would make a big difference. A lot of this could be solved by guys already on the team simply playing better, though. I don't want to see anymore lateral moves, stop gaps, etc. Been there done that. Either trade for an impact player or stick with what they have.

I think we need consistency from our role players, if they can hit open shoot - and I mean wide open - like an average role player our big 3 will find them and we will win more games.

Cousins is a center! I've watched this kid play for quite a while, and if you want to develop him where he'll be able to use all his abilities, the you plant him near the basket where he can score and rebound. Put him at PF and you have him playing away from the basket guarding guys like Milsap, West, Landry etc. All guys that are quicker than him. You want a shotblocker, then draft or trade for a player that can play PF and still block shots. There are two guys in the upcoming draft that fit that bill. Davis and Drummond! Not saying we'll be able to draft either, but thats the type of player we need next to Cousins.

As far as our biggest need right now. A SF that can play defense, handle and pass the ball, and spot up well enough to where you have to guard him.
This post sums up my feelings exacly. Davis in the draft would be a dream come true.

I like Terrence Ross as well, but I don't think we need a SG right now. I like Tony Wroten from Washington even more, and I think this kid could play PG. If you thinking PG and Washington, then Abdul Gaddy comes to mind. But I doubt thats who you were thinking of. Perhaps it was Shabazz Napier of UCONN, or someone I really like, Aaron Craft of Ohio St. Another player I really like, and who might be available in the second round if he doesn't make a big splash in the tournament, is Scott Machado of Iona.

What RAINMAKER said is, IMHO, partially true: The Kings ownership has created the mess we're in now by slowly frittering away their fortune (ie., selling beer franchise to raise funds for The Palms, and then the Palms almost going bankrupt and them losing all but 5% of the ownership of it) and thus NOT being able to fund an NBA team adequately. I think they've stymied Petrie and his people to the extent that Petrie just is not making the good trades/choices that the Kings need. I pray every night that the Maloof's are forced to sell a majority of the Kings to a deep pockets guy who will choose a new GM.

To address the second part of the problem of our team needs as they exist currently, I think that the greatest need is for a mobile shotblocking big PF/C so our team can start to play decent defense. 2nd greatest need would be a good SF and time for Evans to learn how to distribute the ball better (will come with better coaching and experience IMHO).

Fact # 1 - Last year the KIngs had the lowest payroll in the league.

Fact # 2 - Westphal was hired on the cheap, one of the lowest paid coaches in the league.

Fact # 3 - Petrie himself took a pay cut a couple years ago.

So I think the biggest need is owners with deep pockets. NBA owners is what this team needs. Burkle please.

Fact #4- This year the Kings ALSO have the lowest payroll in the league.

The idea they've spent anything more than the bare minimum is a fallacy, not that I'm accusing you personally of saying such.

I've been saying this. It's almost impossible to develop a good team when you have broke-*ss owners. Look at the Clippers and how they've done through the years. (I don't think Donald Sterling is broke though, just cheap)
