what if we do this....

Salmons has been steadily improving. what about putting in the starting PG slot? He seems to be able to play it. That will solve one of the biggest holes on defense. We can then trade bibby (a good and proven clutch player with an expiring contract) for some parts we need or some draft picks. I say, we even trade ron, he's beginning to turn into the old ron again. since it seems were actually gonna go into rebuild mode we might as well do a good job at it.

If we had a "big" frontcourt then I think this would be a great idea. Go big and play zone. But, we don't. At least not yet. There is bound to be a big guy coming this offseason so maybe this is something we will see next year.

Although, with the way Bibby has been playing it might be a possibility this year.

You really think Salmons can guard Nash, Paul, Parker etc? Well not that Bibby can either. But I'm not sure Salmons could play PG for a full 30+ minutes.

Actually, defense isn't the problem. Salmons bothered Nash (for a while anyway), and he guarded Parker really well in the game against the Spurs. He's actually our best option guarding point guards.

The problem is that Salmons has a really hard time bringing the ball up the floor against small, quick point guards. He has good-but-not-great ballhandling skills, and it's a real chore for him to bring the ball up against small guys pestering him. Muss started him at PG against the Hornets in the preseason and Paul gave him fits. I suppose you could overcome this if Artest brought the ball up, but it's tough to get your offense going when you can't initiate the offense until there's only 15 seconds left on the shot clock.

People need to remember that we must have some kind of depth on the bench. Salmons is doing an excellent job at this point and I think he's shown he can be a fill-in starter in some situations. I think we should let the team evolve and see what happens. Salmons isn't going to start with the present group of players we have. If something happens to change that, then perhaps he'll step up.

I'm just very, very, very thankful we have him.

Bit of a nitpick, but without even addressing matchups and bench help...no we can't. Mike Bibby is paid too much to be tradeable, especially if he's sitting on your bench. If you want to trade Mike its better to play him big minutes. (and run plays to get him open looks, gotta pump up the numbers)
