Here is the problem with this trade. Peja has shown in the past that when it gets nasty he dissapears. Physical defenders take him out of his game. Thats what happens in the playoffs. Webb always stepped up in the playoffs, so the question is, who is gonna step up now? Bibby has always been good, as has Miller, but right there is no superstar on this team. A bunch of good players, some very good, but no superstar to lead the team to what I assume is the organizations goal, which I hope is a championship.

Horrible. Absolutely horrible. Makes the Shaq trade look like a steal for the Lakers compared to this. I'd take Lamar Odom and Caron Butler for Webber anyday of the week and twice on Sundays if the alternative is this. We had to give Barnes up too? Man, absolutely horrible. Worst trade of the season, by any team, hands down. Former executive of the year my ***. This is pathetic. He better pull down some more trades tomorrow involving these scrubs or you can forget about any money from me going towards the Kings organization in a long, long time.

I would have rather simply gone down with the ship behind Chris Webber. He made the Sacramento Kings matter - that's all there is to it. I hate Geoff Petrie.

Thank you! I will borrow your thought for my signature, if you don't mind.

I have haad a few minutes to gather my thoughts and have concluded that Phily just took us to the cleaners. I'm not sure that I would have traded Bradley and Barnes for the three Phily forwards. I just don't know.

We traded 6"10 245 allstar, 6"9 240 rebounder, 6"7 235 sixth man ( who just scored his first double double last night) for a fat guy with a bad fro(skinner) 6"9, 6"7 (year-to-year reject) corliss , and an undersized forward, 6"7 kenny thomas.

Petrie might as well just trade all of our players away now, to save us the emotional pain. First Vlade, Doug, now Chris. Next year if Peja doesn't want to play, he's getting traded too.

umm, yay!<sarcastically>

Sixers on the other hand now have one of the best lineups in the east, especially with Shaq's uncertainty.

C Dalembert
PF Webber <--The Heart of Our team
SF Iguodala
SG Hinrich
PG Iverson

Whichever team Chris is on, I'm on also. Go Sixers!

Ohhh, tough times for some DEAR Kings fans right now. Many here have very strong feelings for Webber, and I gotta say I feel for ya in the worst way.

:(

To be honest, I was.....happy.....to hear about the trade. For many reasons, but mostly to be able to see our half-court offense open up again with Peja being a higher scoring option--where Kings excelled previously. Not because I LOVE PEJA, but because it works.

There is much more I could say.

I want to read the thread and see what everyone else has said. Sure what I have to say has already been said, since I have come in late...

HANG TOUGH SACRAMENTO...the best is yet to be!!!

Fact: The Kings were playing very well last year without CWebb.

Fact: The Kings may have had too few balls to keep Bibby, CWebb, Miller, Mobley and Peja happy.

Fact: CWebb was playing great at the time of the trade.

Fact: CWebb is injury-prone, and perhaps Geoff sensed this would be a good time to trade him. Since Geoff's not in the habit of being taken advantage of in trade talks, I assume that this package was probably the best package he could have received in return.

Fact: The Detroit Pistons proved last year that a TEAM, not a collection of stars, can win a title. Perhaps it's addition by subtraction. This is in NO WAY a knock on CWebb, just an observation.

Hope: Peja regains his MVP caliber touch from last year, since he's out of CWebb's shadow.

Hope: Peja stays a King long-term. As much as I liked CWebb, you don't know how long he would be able to play well with such an injury. Peja made it pretty clear he would be out of Sacramento at the end of next year if he wasn't dealt. Now, maybe he'll stay.

Fact and Hope: This restors the Kings depth of year's past. THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT. Look at the lineup flexibilty:

Starting lineup:

Peja SF
Thomas PF
Miller C
Mobley SG
Bibby PG

That's still a pretty good starting lineup. But look at the bench:

Williamson SF/PF A former 6th man of the year, and a productive player in Detroit last year, and productive in Philly this year

Skinner PF/C Averaged over 10 points and 7 rebounds last year in decent playing time for Milwaukee.

Ostertag C Productive in certain spots, don't know how this trade impacts his playing time. Does Miller play more at PF, thereby giving him more PT?

Songalia PF A developing young player, putting up better numbers than last year.

THAT'S SOME GREAT FRONTCOURT DEPTH.

Evans, House, and Special K are still rough around the edges, and we'll miss Matt Barnes, but, let's face it, Matt Barnes by himself wasn't going to bring us to the Finals.

Earlier in the year, Geoff brought more offense (Mobley) and traded away defense (Christie). Now, Geoff has traded away scoring (CWebb), for defense (Thomas).

The great unknown: What are the passing skills of these new players? Will they fit into the team's unselfish nature? How long will it take the team to play to its new potential?

I'M NOT GIVING UP ON THIS YEAR, AND I HAVEN'T LOST FAITH IN GEOFF PETRIE. IT'S TOO EARLY TO TELL IF THIS IS A BAD TRADE FOR THE KINGS.

Philly needed another superstar to compliment AI. Perhaps the Kings needed more role players to compliment its stars (Miller, Peja, and Bibby).

Bump. This is an important poll.
No it isn't, just like the Peja polls weren't important. What is the poll gonna do for anyone, except just serve to prove one's own case? Sorry, opinions are a dime a dozen and so are polls, just ask Petrie. If the roles and polls were reversed, I would say the EXACT same thing, pure BS. All you gotta do is read the 30+ page thread to know what the poll will say.

Sorry Brickie, the poll is just not important because it can't change anything.

P.S. I didn't vote KP. :)
P.P.S. I truly feel for you KP and everyone else, truly truly truly.

I never said it was important. It is however of relevance in assessing opinions. And frankly if you don't like it, go to another thread and quit pestering people here.

I chose below.

Bad Trade -- The Kings deserved a chance this year

I see most 70 so far have voted that it was a terrible trade. 65% Tells alot.

I went with terrible. I just don't know enough about it to say anything else right now. I haven't kept up with the team like I have the last 3 years - no league pass this season. I still throw up a little in my mouth everytime I see Ostertag in a Kings jersey. But this is just too much at the moment.

I honestly don't know yet. I have to admit that I'm not a Sacramento local, and while I'm still a Kings fan, I will be taking a strong interest in the 76s now as well...

I can see the good and the bad. The good is the cap room and the chance for a new beginning IF that is what was needed. The bad? You've traded one of the best PFs to play the game. This is a hell of a gamble, and only time will tell if it will play out.

On the face of it this trade is so bad that you have to believe GP has a good reason for doing it since it's awknowledged that he is a superior GM. And there are so many peripheral implications we may not know about or are not valuing properly. I'm still sticking with GP. It may take til next fall for this gambit to take shape but how many of us really truely believe the Kings of Tuesday were good enough to go all the way? Oh, sure, they had a "punchers chance" but with our luck as of the last couple of years I wouldn't bank on it. And, if you answer "no" then you must hope that this "tweaking" will get us deeper into the playoffs or give us currency for further positive moves in the future. GM's must be thinking months, years even, in advance. I say, wait for the plan to develop.

I voted neutral. I will come to conclusions once the playoffs start and wether me make it or not and if we do how far we go. Should be interesting. :\

I vote terrible, we should have gotten more for Webber. If this is the best that you can get for Webber right now, then you hold off and trade him in the off-season. You don't disrupt the entire team to get some journeymen with no real impact. You don't get any prospects, any picks, any starters? Then you wait for the off-season. The only way this trade makes sense for the Kings is if they have something else left to be done.

the minutes are ticking down.... I hope there is something up Petrie's sleeve, because this trade just doesn't make any sense to me as it is. I hate it as a Webber fan, and I would hate to lose Webb under ANY circumstances, but more importantly, I hate it as a Kings fan. Losing Webb is hard enough, but getting nothing is return is unforgivable. I lost a lot of respect for the Kings organization last night.

I voted that it was time for Chris to go because of age/injury. I feel awful about him being gone, it's unfathomable that the Kings could be without him. However, the knee issue is just too much of a risk.

I also feel that there is something else involved in the trade that is only privy to Petrie and management.

Sure, the Kings should have gotten more for him and I would have rather seen them wait until the off season if they were going to trade him no matter what. The problem with that though is that you take a huge risk that Webb's health will not get any worse than it currently is. If it does then you are stuck with him and can't trade him at all. This is totaly risky move, but IMO Webb will never play at a higher level than he is currently playing at and there is a real good chance that he only has one more year after this year with his health the way it is.
