What do the Maloof's want?

If the Maloofs do just want out of Sacramento, I see no reason why they won't be able to. I don't see a way for a government entity to force a private business to stay where they don't want to. The only avenue is for the NBA to step up and say that the franchise should be in Sacramento. Stern seems to be done with this though.

If the Maloofs are a private entity, the Maloofs should pay for the arena by themselves without financing from local governments.

1. NBA needs cities to help with future arena consructions. After Seattle debacle weekend in Orlando looked like a huge success. No way Stern or his successor will allow Kings to just stand up and leave.
2. Lakers momentarily lose like $100 or $150 million from their TV contract the moment Kings move to Anaheim. I think they will have a reason to ask for at least this much in relocation fees.

If Maloofs file for relocation to Anaheim, you can bet your bottom dollar that the relocation cost would be more than their contribution to the downtown arena would have been. As Gilles stated, Lakers stand to lose $100-150 million of this happens and the relocation fee will at least cover that amount.

That's of course assuming that they get enough votes to move in the first place which I wouldn't count on. This is the "limbo" time. We want them out as owners, they want to move somewhere else and try and save their asset except they are boxed in for the time being. We got them over the barrel and they are plotting their next move for which we need to be prepared. The longer this thing goes on, the closer we are to the resolution. Hopefully, they fold and sell to an owner with deep pockets willing to keep the team in Sacramento.

Burkle would be nice even though I don't think his intentions for keeping the team in Sacramento are because he loves the area. his intentions are more political but as long as he keeps the team in Sacramento and picks up the arena deal where Maloofs dropped it, and he is willing to spend money and build a championship team, then I am all for it.
