I have been a Kings fan since they arrived in Sacramento. Have seen the ups and downs but stayed loyal. I must speak my mind on this latest move.
First let me say that it is a true shame the way these trades have come about not to say bad timing. Or is it? Have the powers to be already given up on the season? Trading the one player (Chris Webber) that we put back into the line up at the end of last year just prior to the playoffs. We did this after he missed half the season. Which caused the entire team to not play up to their capabilities.
We thought this palyer would take us all the way. Now that player is on the block and gone. Why wasn't this plan thought out before the season started? It looks like a reactive type of planning not proactive. This is only going to cause the rest of the team players to become edgy and lose focus on what it is we are trying to do in Sacramento.
Yes I understand that these men are professionals. These men develope strong bonds that can be seen with the camaraderie and teamwork that is displayed on the court. These things are not given they are earned through the time on and off the floor. With a trade in the middle of the seasons of a key player like Chris Webber only says that the management has in fact given up on the season. We will see what the future holds.
I would like to address one other area of this trade. What about Matt Barnes. Here is a man that was not drafted or traded to the Kings. A player that worked his tail feathers off and made the squad. Has came off the bench and not only did what was asked of him but stepped up his play to levels that not even his coaching staff thought he was capable of. He has made the difference in more games then not. So we take this man and trade him off to another team! We don't let him know anything until the last moment. Talk about a bad taste in your mouth. I'm sure his feelings and views of management are real high now or for that fact, ever.
The way this trade has occurred is so ruthless and cut throat that it has left me wondering, do I really want to be a part of the fan base of a team that truely could care less about the players. This trade will be the undoing of a great franchise in the makings. Sometimes things take longer then others. I didn't see the fan base losing any sleep over the team and it's present production levels. Of course we all want to win but I think just being able to connect to a team that represents the area is fine.
Edit: Only change made was to put in some paragraphs. VF21
