What about Marc Gasol? (split from Okafor thread)

Memphis is a cheap team probably looking to cut costs. We should try and get marc gasol who is beasting right now. They need to make room to play Thabeet anyways.

Unfortunately, Gasol's still on his rookie deal, so there's no financial motivation.

Marc is only making 3.5 million. If they want to cut costs they would only trade Gasol by packaging him with 7m Marco Jaric's albatross contract. And even then, I doubt they make that trade.

If anyone gets traded it has to be Randolph, and good luck trying to find a team willing to make that deal.

Unless the owner gets directly involved again over there to advance his Thabeet project, the Grizzlies have no inspiration at all to move Gasol.

This is the thing about these kinds of options to Okafor -- we can talk all day and night about how much we'd like this guy or how much we'd like that guy -- I have interests in Hibbert and Oden for instnace -- but if they are already under contract to ither teams they probably like them too and they aren't available. Its a rare thing to see a quality center hit the market. If you can get one cheap (in terms of material) you have to pay attention. Gasol is young, cheap, and having a strong sophomore season Whay would they want to give him to us? Its really no different than somebody on a Golden State board saying how much they like Jason Thompson and so why don't we (the Warriors) trade for him. Well one reason migt be because we (the Kings) aren't interested in trading him.

There is no way in hell that they would give up Gasol right now. Although Gasol was a rookie last year, one must remember that he had a lot of experience playing in europe. So the transition wasn't as big a leap for him. Thabeet on the other hand was far from a finished product coming out of college. Not all his fault, since six years prior to being drafted, he didn't know what a basketball was. Compare that to Evans who was born with a basketball in his hands.

My point is, that Thabeet is far from ready to become the main guy. He's probably a long way from being the second guy. He needs to be brought along at a safe pace. To be put in games at moments where he can best succeed. Not counting the Kings game, I've watched two games that he's been in. The speed of the NBA and the size difference is his biggest challenge. Our very own Spencer Hawes juked him out of his shoes. And we all know what a mean crossover dribble Hawes has. Now imagine him up against Howard or Garnett.
