I wonder if gay collison Ben gets Westbrook
Rent-a-Westbrook huh?
I wouldn't want to give up much, but a year of Cuz and Westbrook would be fun as hell.
To dream the impossible dream.![]()
I keep thinking of Minnesota as a target for Westbrook, they have a lot of young talent to offer and if you add Westbrook to that team under Thibs they are going to be scary...
If they could do it and keep Wiggins and KAT, then I think they'd do it. It might mean giving up Rubio, Lavine, maybe someone else and picks, but if they got a guarantee he'd re-sign they would have a good big three.
If we did enter into discussions for him I think we would be looking at moving the following:
- Collison, McLemore, Richardson, WCS, Skal, Papa
I don't envisage them wanting Rudy Gay, Koufos, and even Collison is a push at 28 years old. I think they'd want young talent and as many picks as possible. Problem we'd have is if we added Westbrook and he re-signed is that our picks would be outside the lottery. The further issue is 2017 first rounder is owed to Chicago if it falls outside the top ten and 2019 is owed to Philly. So perhaps we could offer 2018 and 2020 and beyond, but they'd be late round picks.
I'm not sure they'd do it because I think someone like Boston or even Philly could offer them a boatload of draft picks and some young talent as well.
Minnesota could put together a great offer. It would likely start with Kris Dunn and Minnesota's 1st rounder next year. But if I'm Thibs and the Wolves I don't know that I'd gamble on a possible one year rental of Westbrook when they could just let their young and talented team grow together while having a lot of salary cap flexibility.
Even if the Kings could put together an enticing package they'd essentially have to gut their team to get Westbrook and then risk losing him as a free agent next offseason. If Westbrook doesn't want to stay in OKC would he want to stay in Sacramento after they have to trade most of their talent other than Cousins to get him?
Westbrook/Cousins would be an incredible foundation but there'd be a ton of work to build around them and that's only if Russ would be interested in staying long term.
