Although at this point a little bit of me is wishing I hadn't.

Ouch. And Blech.

In addition to taking out my tonsils, they completely cut off my uvula. completely!!!
(ouch.gross.eww.sigh)

I had the surgery yesterday at 1pm, and I have to say: thus far my recovery does not seem as awful/arduous as what EVERYONE I spoke to about it has described. (thank god, and I'm keeping my fingers crossed). Don't get me wrong... it sucks flaming cow anus, but it just doesn't seem to suck quite as bad as had been previously described to me. I've been able to drink relatively easily since around 6 pm last night, and things like Jello and broth are going down fairly easily. (all this on FULL pain-killer, of course-- both Perkoset AND Morphine :) ). Right now I am choking down a cup of pureed split-pea-soup (I NEED something hearty, or I feel like I am going to puke) It actually is going down fairly easy, but it is exacerbating one of my main two post surgery complaints... which are:

1) I haven't gotten any consistant sleep yet. A large part of this was due to the fact that I spent the night in the hospital, with their inate ability to sense when you have finally slipped into a true deep and satisfying sleep, before deciding that they want to take your temp/move your pulseox monitor from your pointer finger to your pinkie/ask if you have a ride home secured/or whateverthehellelsetheycanpossiblycomeupwith. But also, during sleep is the one time that my symptoms really regress: i wake up after 1 or 1.5 hours because my throat starts to feel significantly worse. I'm hoping THIS pattern will recede fairly rapidly.

2) THe fact that they cut off my uvula (holy !@#! that is repulsive to me for some reason, i mean a REAAAL gut-twister) and my tonsils has led to the fact that I think when my swelling increases even just a little, the sutures from my "angry inch" of an uvula seem to rub into the sutures from my missing tonsils... and since the tonsil area is the "gag-reflex" area, i occasionally feel like I'm trying to induce vomitting. Not good. Even when the gag reflex is not engaged, the sutures constantly feel like I have piece of dry cracker in my throat, and it is VERY hard to refrain from "clearing my throat".

Anyway, back to the pea-soup... its going down fairly easily, but its exacerbating the blicky-sutures feeling, at least in the short-run. I'm REALLY hoping that dies back down.

I hope you feel better! I'm paranoid every time I get a sore throat I'll need mine taken out. I've always lived by the television Ice Cream for days recovery, lol.

I REALLY hope you feel better soon.

mcsluggo- the swelling goes down in a couple days and the stitches won't touch each other so much. it eventually gets much better. I had mine out when I was 15 or so. you'll be alright. Glad you made it through the surgery. the rough part is it hurts to swallow for a bit. avoid soda for a little bit as the carbination is hard on the throat.
