Welcome Arron Afflalo!

Kings fans every year since Afflalo came into the league: Trade for Afflalo! Afflalo is awesome!

Kings fans now that we signed him: this dude sucks! Why are we wasting money on this bum???

I would guess the guys, who wanted to trade for Afflalo are happy right now.
To be honest I might need to go back to the date I joined this site and check, if I ever voted for an Afflalo trade. Can't be sure about that and the Internet doesn't forget. ;)

Compete with the Knicks in free agency? Of course we can't. That's New York. It will always be a favourite destination for free agents.
And New Orleans had to overpay for Hill. I liked Hill as a player with potential, but I'm happy we didn't throw 13 millions at him.
The fact is that I understand your point. I'm frustrated too. But unfortunately free agency is not how we will turn this team around. Right now we are paying for years of bad drafting. We failed for years to get that second star next to Cousins, and we had many chances. That's what really hurt us.

I don't know if you are correct on the attractivity of New York for FA's. I think in more recent years LA or NY weren't all that attractive for most FA's.
And maybe I'm wrong, but I personally would have overpaid for Hill too, before I sign Afflalo and Tolliver. Tolliver is redundant with Casspi - both SF/small ball PF, who can shoot, only that Casspi can do a lot of things Tolliver can't.
So instead of spending 8 millions on Tolliver and 12,5 millions on Afflalo - why not spend 13 millions on Hill, who has the potential to be everything we need as long as his 3 pt shooting stays around league average?

Because Afflalo and Tolliver are basically on a 1yr deal, and Hill on a 4yrs/52m contract. Like you said, Hill has "the potential" to be everything we need, which means he still has to prove everything. And if he doesn't work out you need to pay him 13m every year.
We have another player who had the potential to be everything we need. His name is Ben.
Many of us are unhappy about our offseason so far. Would you rather pay 13m per year for Hill and 9 for Moore? I wouldn't...

Back to the Knicks, yes, they have not been a great FA destination in then last years. But always better than Sacrmento. A small market like Sacramento can only compete with LA or NY if the team is already really good, or clearly on the way up. We are not. So no way we can compete with NY or LA.

Signing players will always be a risk. With Hill the risk is somewhat calculated, because even if his shooting doesn't stay at roughly 35% from 3, he still is one of the better defenders out there, he can really defend 1-4 (not potentially like WCS), he is an unselfish player on offense, who moves the ball well enough, can handle a bit and goes after rebounds and has the frame to do so for a wing.
So yes - no doubt in my mind, that I would rather pay 13m for Hill and 9 for Moore, than to aquire stopgaps like Afflalo and Tolliver, who isn't needed on this roster anyway.

You may be right about NY. No way to prove you otherwise.

Ok, let's agree we disagree. I just would love to see the reactions on this forum if we had signed Hill and Moore to those contracts. Grass is always greener...

Oh yes I would guess the reactions on this forum would have been funny to read, if we had signed Hill and Moore. But that's always the case in places, where there are so many different people and opinions.
My reaction would have been cautiously optimistic, that this franchise finally moves into the right direction. So I'm not sure that the term "the Grass is always greener...." fits here. ;)
My opinion has been fairly consistent over the last few months. I wanted lengthy, defensive role players on the wings in FA and somehow a slight chance to get a mid tier PG (Teague, Hill, Joseph, Smart or someone else) in a trade.
That's what I thought was needed to move forward into the PO.
Now so far it doesn't look like the Kings are able (or willing) to pull that off.
So of course I'm disappointed.

Because we also have Bogdan Bogdanovic, the 27th overall pick in the 2014 draft, coming over next year to play that position. We don't need to lock up a player long-term if this guy can come in and produce. By all accounts he is a very good player and should be able to make that position his.

One of the main words here is "if", if he can come in and produce- and we are not sure about that.
He is talented but it's still counting on a rookie.
And where is the "all-in" crowd? when in the draft we talked about it seeming like we are not going in a "win-now" route, the response was that in FA we will get this guys and both of our signings so far seems like meh placeholders.
It really looks like Vlade is planning for the day after Cousins.

I think some of the people upset about signing Afflalo are just expecting too much. We don't need him to be a star, he just needs to be a solid role player who you can count on at times. Yeah his defense isn't perfect, but I'm pretty confident he is going to be an overall important upgrade from Ben.

How many games did Ben just disappear in? Low scoring games because he never even shot the ball and when he did he missed. Don't even look at scoring percentages, because theirs are not too far apart, and just realize how many more baskets that Afflalo made compared to been Ben last year.

Afflalo
FG - 354
3P - 91

McLemore
FG - 195
3P - 67

Now we have a guy to make up for all those games when Ben disappeared and barely scored or even took any shots. I think that's going to help tremendously.

You have to. You can't assume he is going to stick around, this team severely lacked young prospects and missed on so many the last few seasons that it's held this team back for a few more seasons. We know this all ready.

Aaron Affalo is a Starting 2 Guard in the NBA. He has good size and is a good all around ball player. He is the best 2 guard on this team since Kevin Martin and the best all around 2 guard since Doug Christie! By the way Doug was also around 30 when Petrie traded for him back in the day.

Ok...whoa there! Enthusiasm is a great thing for a fan. Unfortunately Afflalo at this stage is kind of a human damper. :)

He IS a starting SG in the league, and he's the best we've had since Vivek took over just because he is a true starting SG and not some clueless kid or blown up PG. BUT, he's completely mediocre at this point. I said before we were aiming for a B- with this aquisition, but confident we could hit it. Maybe a C+. It just stops the bleeding and gives us a pro who at least knows how to play. But almost any of the Petrie era SGs, with the brief exception of the late 90s Abdul-Wahad/ghost of Nick Anderson years, were flat more dynamic.

Well, I can't recall a better all around 2 guard since Doug Christie. Give me a name man, a name:) KMart was a defensive sieve.
