[Trade] Warriors have obvious Jonathan Kuminga trade demand after latest Kings reports

So in other words, the Warriors damaged their relationship with Kuminga to the point he wants to leave and already has a destination in mind but instead of doing the usual thing of giving him a sweet new contract that will make him happy to return, they’re still trying to lowball him because that’s the only way they can sign Horford and Melton lol

When it comes to Vivek I don't think he knows ball. But I also don't get why we have collectively decided that he was the driver of LaVine, as far as I recall we made him an offer once. Years ago. Never pursued again.

It's mostly dependent on one's view of Monte McNair. I have a more charitable (though still measured) view of his tenure than many do on this forum. But the truth is, we don't really know anything about what's going in the Kings' front office. We don't really know the level to which Vivek is hands-on or hands-off as an owner. Like all fans, we thrive primarily on rumors and hearsay. But because of my modestly positive view of McNair as a GM and my generally dim view of Vivek as an owner, I am considerably more likely to believe rumors that Fox-for-LaVine is not the trade Monte wanted to make, and that he wouldn't have made it but for pressures outside of his control.

Local media must’ve all gotten the same text from Perry/BJ

I have so little respect for just about any local voice covering the Kings these days, so I take it all with a grain of salt, but if this stance is accurately-represented, it's much more encouraging than anything I've heard in Kingsland since draft day. I still hate the Schroder contract, but from here on out, be smart and opportunistic, and let the Warriors dig their own grave if they're so determined to do so.

We've been told by someone with no reason to lie that the pressure came from the agent's camp. It makes sense since that same agent was repping Fox.

I think Monte was good at talent evaluation, bad at negotiating the best deal. The Fox trade works within that framework. At minimum - with that deal in place - we should have demanded that the 2031 pick swap was undone. Same with the Haliburton trade, everything was fine, but we should have held out for draft sweetener or at least heard what another team would offer if only to bring it back.

The one thing that throws me in all of this is we let Monte make those moves and then didn't let him stay to finish. If he was gone no matter what we should have held Fox so the new GM could deal with it.

That would have meant completely tossing the season and going into a tank, and as much as I know Vivek wouldn't like that, I know a lot of ticket holders that would have hated it even more.

Honestly, all of this is good decision making. And it makes sense why they aren't caving on the unprotected; seems like it's pretty clear JK has checked out on the Warriors, wants to come to Sac, so we're just going to stand firm on a "Hey, we have your out on the situation, either take it, or you can deal with this all year long or watch him leave for nothing next off-season".

JK's real leverage here is he can drag this to October 1, which is the deadline to sign the QO or not. So do the Warriors want to continue to deal with this into August and Sept? Do Melton and Horf wait that long? When do the Warriors leaders (Kerr/Steph/Dray) start to get into ownership/GMs ear about finalizing this roster heading into training camp?

Pressure may, indeed, have come from the agent's camp, but so what? Why would Monte feel inclined to make the deal if there wasn't internal pressure to do so? Holding onto Fox until the off-season harms no future negotiations with Rich Paul. At all. Like I said, if no other worthy deal materialized, LaVine would have still been sitting there this summer, with Chicago more than ready to unload him. More to the point, LaVine isn't one of Monte's guys. He's been gettable for a long time now if there was ever a team that wanted him, and the only reports we have of the Kings' interest in LaVine were during the Vlade era.

Charitably, the only reason to blame Vivek is because this fan base has become pre-disposed to hating the man.

I would like some proof or even evidence. I have seen none.

What’s GSW end game here you don’t even value Kuminga so why is your idiot owner trying to value him in a trade. Curry/Butler clock is ticking why aren’t you improving the team every contender in the west has made moves expect for GSW

How does a team heading into the offseason needing size and athleticism get worse at both
This is the part I don't get. It's been an issue since the start of the Fox Era. It was a massive issue in 22-23. And this is now 3 years running where our answer up front has been
McGee, Len, Kessler Edwards, Sasha, McDerrmot, Saric, Eubanks. That is an absolutely pathetic list. How is it that every other team in the league can add several forwards/bigs, and we cannot even add 1 behind Sabonis/Keegan. The 2 we added that were playable lasted with the team for 3 months. Just insanity.

I think it’s a bluff/posturing. They’re hoping either the Kings or another team gives more or JK just resigns so he can be moved later.

And you likely won't ever see any. Most NBA owners don't cop to their level of involvement in front office affairs. It's only the worst-of-the-worst, your Donald Sterling's and James Dolan's and Matt Ishbia's, who flout their hands-on approach and rub the fans' noses in it. Evidence will always be scant around Vivek, especially because he seems to have learned an important PR lesson after the "Stauskas? Stauskas?" draft room fiasco of 2014.

That said, Vivek remains the one constant in the churn of misery Kings fans have experienced since he purchased the team, and many who depart this organization eventually go on the record and say, "The problem with that franchise is at the top; it's one guy." Most who work for him leave with a negative impression of him. He's left tons of wreckage in his wake across these last twelve years as the team's owner. Let that be your evidence. While I think "hating the man" is a hyperbolic characterization of fan response to Vivek's stewardship of the franchise, I also don't think the fans are irrational at all in their predisposition to blame him for the Kings' woes.

I'd be fine with it, if only because it might enhance his trade value later.

Will he accept it? Probably if it gets him to his target destination.
This has always made the most sense to me with the current roster. You absolutely must limit the minutes LaVine/Derozan play together. But we know that Monk/Derozan pairing worked pretty well without LaVine.
Schroder - Keon - LaVine - Keegan - Sabonis
Monk - Carter/Nique - Demar - Jones - Eubanks/Maxime

Yes we start smaller, but Keon is a better defender than Demar anyways. And maybe LaVine will be better not having to defend faster guards?

Gotta love the back-and-forth media leaks today.

Warriors leak: We're not trading Kuminga! We mean it!

Kings leak: This is your relationship with Kuminga:

We'll wait.

We had Peja say that Rich Paul forced LaVine on us and I would say firing Monte offers no proof that LaVine was all Vivek, especially since he then went out and hired a guy on record as saying you can't build a team around him.

What evidence is there that Vivek is/was obsessed with adding Zach beyond the fact we tried to sign him a long, long time ago?

I'm really curious.
Come on ….. if you have reached the point an agent can force you to give up all you gave up for a highly negative LaVine contract you might as well fold up shop and go home.

Even the Kings are not that ****ing bad. They have LaVine because Vivek wanted a “star” player they could market. They were losing Fox and Vivek has the patience of a June bug.

Russ can happen but it better be a minimum deal. This is the same as it was going to be whatever moves the Kings made. Either the old guard wins games or goes somewhere else sooner than later hopefully. Win or rebuild. Done. Not sure why this is overly complicated for the Kings every time they do anything. Too many people trying to justify their worth as a basketball mind, lol. Ripping off a freaking Band-Aid doesn't require a doctorate.
