Seriously, though, I like the idea that he wants players who are motivated and will work way above and beyond to achieve their goals. You look at his life story and you can see that he wants to gather those players around him who will do the max, who will work the long hours and who will put aside personal ego for the good of the team.
Guys who put the good of the team ahead of their own? Gee, if only there was one available in free agency. You know, one who could have created a major **** storm with the way he was treated.
Hard worker? Someone who has worked to improve himself each year he's been in the league?
Seriously though, sounds like Vivek has a plan, which is refreshing. Let's see how that vision impacts who he chooses.

Actually, one of Evans biggest criticisms is that he doesn't work hard enough on things like game film, scouting reports, etc. This came from his own brother who said he treats it like a pick up game and needs to get more serious.

Yeah, if there's one thing you can count on it's that Vivek will base his decision about Evans on some old comment made by his brother.

i'm quite certain that this does not concern vivek ranadive, and more importantly, mike malone, in the least. their goal is to transform the culture of the sacramento kings. the previous front office regime did not value analytics. that has already changed. and the previous coaching staff did not value the watching of relevant film. if it did, keith smart would have begun last season with a preparation that consisted of more than studying harlem globe trotters tape from the middle of the 20th century...
i mean, hey, i love basketball history as much as the next sports nerd, but the kings' coaching staff was an absolute cluster**** at the level of implementation. they failed to inspire. they failed to execute. they failed to develop consistency, except in their lack of execution of a worthy game plan. now, of course, tyreke evans could have taken on the responsibility to watch film himself, and he should have, but i seriously doubt that it's any kind of deterrent to ranadive...
he and his team are fully aware of the mess that was left behind for them to clean up. hell, he's already proven that he's open to helping reform demarcus cousins (the king who receives the most criticism for failing to give 100%), so he's certainly not about to write off tyreke evans just because 'reke hasn't been proactive about film and scouting report study...

Actually scouting reports was one thing Smart consistently said he provided players. And when asked specific questions why they didn't do something a common answer was it was in the scouting report and they were supposed to do it.

Seriously though, leadership goes beyond handing out a piece of paper. The players could've read those reports, but it still takes a gameplan made and communicated by the coach to execute what the players were learning/scouting.

again, it's about team culture. i'm an english teacher. just because i assign a text for my students to read doesn't mean that a) they're going to read it, or b) that we're going to have a meaningful discussion about it just because they may have read it. as a head coach, i imagine it works in much the same way. but there were a multitude of occasions last season where i simply could not understand keith smart's defensive strategy. why were the kings consistently cheating off the best shooters in the league? why were the kings matched up so poorly at the ends of quarters? didn't keith smart plan a strategy around these scouting reports? or did he just hand them to his players and say, "hey, read this. it'll be good for you." the effort the team gave reflects absolutely poor preparation on the part of smart and his staff. and the fact that we've heard rumblings that the kings had completely quit on keith smart lends credence to the idea that smart had no idea what he was doing out there...

You take what info snippets you can get. Do you have any more recent comments that are contrary to his brothers'? Are there comments by others attesting to his assiduous work ethic preparing for games? Love to hear them. By the way, it's hard for me to believe that Cousins was toiling last year in the film room and studying over scouting reports and doing whatever else the coach might want him to do. And yet Vivek has so far made him the "cornerstone". So all these comments made by Vivek can't be taken as the doctrine of a zealot. It's just another piece to the puzzle to figuring out where this team is headed. Maybe Vivek is willing to put up with a lazy player for a while if the player has the talent. Just another thing to keep an eye on in the future.
Are there more recent comments? Yep. Am I gonna bother to go dig them up? Nope. Why not? Because it won't make any difference to you regardless of what I post.
IF there was a problem with Reke's attitude towards the game or his work ethic, it would be out there all over the place. If he was lazy, it would be common knowledge. There is no indication of either of those.
I prefer to evaluate my "info snippets" rather than just take whatever I can get. Maybe I'm just funny like that.

You and I may not like criticism of Tyreke, but as long as someone points out facts, then I don't have a problem with it. What Section 101 said was true! Tyreke has been criticized for not doing his homework before games, and his brother did say that. I have a problem when people just make up things and state them as facts.. We all have our biases, and someone, that doesn't think Tyreke is a good fit on the Kings, opinion is just as good as the opposite opinion, even if not popular, and they certainly have the right to express it. And of course, you have the right to express your displeasure.

Yes it was, and so we can safely assume whatever we want in that regard. However, according to what I read. One of our new players that came over from Houston (name unknown) said he was shocked that most of the Kings didn't read the pregame scouting report before the game. So I don't think it was just Tyreke that had a problem. As Ranadive stated, the entire culture of the team needs to be changed.
While it may be true that it WAS said once upon a time, it wasn't carved in stone. Players change, evolve, and develop work ethics they might not previously have adhered to. If someone is going to use that argument, one would think they could at least put it in context in terms of when it was said and to whom.
If they were too busy texting and playing Angry Birds to watch the film sessions, why in the world would they bother to read a scouting report?
The culture in the locker room was full-on cancer mode, and it started with Keith Smart, who had no idea how to convince a team to listen to him. Well, guess what? The inept coaching staff is out, and a new coaching staff is in. And I'm pretty confident from what has been reiterated over and over that the culture in the locker room is going to change and fast.

Quit blaming the coaching staff for everything. The players need some personal responsibility. If the coaching staff hands them a scouting report they should have to stand there and watch them read it or watch the video with them. Plus I'm sure the same thing was happening under Westfail.

Not happy to hear that players were screwing around but the whole organization was a joke. Salary kept near the bottom of the league yearly, GM openly mocked after several deals, cheapest coaches in the league year after year. Offense modeled after the Globetrotters? You can't make this stuff up. Players do need to own their actions. No excuses this year.

why? they were woefully inept, as was the front office, as was ownership. ineptitude should never be shrouded from blame, particularly when it comes to the development of very young players who require something that at least resembles a leadership structure, which the kings haven't had in half a decade...
