VF21 Favorite Sites for January, 2006

1. Like power tools? Woodworking? Wood projects? If so, this site is one you'll want to check out. There are plans for things from toy chests to cross cut sleds and much more. www.hoistman.com

2. There are tons of sites out there with suggested names for babies, but this is the only one I know of that will help you name your new cat or dog. Honest. And that's not all. You can send online greetings, check out the top 20 names, view the photo gallery and more. www.bowwow.com/au

3. Some people just can't leave well enough alone. The same is true with movie-goers. While some people are content just to watch the story unfold, others have to pick at everything, arguing whether this could have been done or that should have been done, etc. If you're one of those people who just love to pick at nits, this is the site for you. www.nitpickers.com

4. So does your new neighbor look like someone who should be on the FBI's most wanted list? There's only one way to know for sure. Check out the FBI's 10 Most Wanted Fugitives site. Warning: This link takes you to the official FBI website, so if you're paranoid you might want to just skip this one. www.fbi.gov/mostwant/topten/fugitives/fugitives.htm

5. Have you ever been reading a book and they mention a fictional book that really sounds good? If so, this is a site you must check out. It's called The Invisible Library and it's a collection of books that only appear in other books. For example, you'll find listed "The Giant Rat of Sumatra" written by Dr. John Watson. www.invisiblelibrary.com

6. I'm fascinated by cemeteries so I never pass up the opportunity to check out a new website about them. This site is a collection of photos of places the site owner has visited. It includes cemeteries, haunted places, abandoned buildings, etc. There are even a couple of photos of the place where Mothman was reportedly sighted. Enjoy! www.graveaddiction.com

7. I may have actually mentioned this site before but I really enjoy it. It's touted as "A travel site for the nostalgia minded" and has everything from ghost towns to treasure tales and much, much more. There's a lot of stuff to explore here. www.legendsofAmerica.com

8. "George Washington first proposed a military academy in 1783, but it took 20 years to realize. In March 2002, the United States Military Academy at West Point, New York, celebrated 200 years of producing leaders with achievements in engineering, exploration, and war. Here is its history... " There's a lot more to West Point that most of us ever imagined or knew about. http://americanhistory.si.edu/westpoint/

9. I enjoy playing chess. I like to match wits with computer chess programs to see how good they are and whether or not they'll fall for the obvious ploys. This site is truly unique. You play against a computer AND the computer's thought process is displayed on the screen. If you enjoy chess or have a budding chess master in your family, you'll love the Thinking Machine. http://turbulence.org/spotlight/thinking/

10. I've shared astronomical sites before. This one is full of absolutely wondrous pictures. You'll want to take you time and truly enjoy the visit.

Thank you very much.

Because of this, I will never sleep.

Ever.

My employer thanks you, as well.

Wow, that site is a handful. Even the nitpickers get nitpicked.
