VB Mayor wants lease signed by next week

I have all the faith in the world in Commissioner Stern that he will not sell four proven NBA markets (Sacramento, Seattle, Washington D.C and Charlotte) down the river to appease an unproven market that is the 40 something in TV, depending on Virginia government state welfare to subsidize owners who's in significant debt.

This is some BS!!!

Georgie could sign a notice of intent to move, but we all know how faithful HE is! Smh. I would be very scared if I was VB in playing hardball with Georgie...making demands and all.

Just from that quote this deal sounds dead to me. Pretty much sounds like a direct threat from the mayor to the flaky Maloofs to get on with their end of the bargain. If this was no big deal he wouldn't have gone through the media like that. Maloofs playing somebody else like a fiddle!

George is adding another failure to his already impressive list. Someone in that family better take him for a ride out into the desert.

I think the mayor has done a little studying and is getting cold feet and might I add, appropriately. I don't think anything can be signed this soon.

On a slightly different tact, I'd like to see George sit down with Ron Burkle. If there is a chance he would sell, Burkle would keep the game playing to a minimum and get the job done or not. I have nothing to base that on except that George is a flake and Burkle is a proven successful businessman.

The only encouraging bit I've read recently is that the word "sell" might have actually crossed a Maloof's lips. C'mon and do it already.

George would sign that lease, really he would, but he's come down with a really bad case of writer's block.

I agree with the OP. I do not understand how the Maloofs could sign a binding lease agreement without approval of the BoG to move the team. If the VB mayor suddenly puts the deadline back until March 2, I think we'll have our answer.

March 1st is the file date. It takes months for the relocation team to do a study on the proposed relocation before they give their recommendation to the BoG.

And even then, the Maloofs won't file for relocation. They will request an extension to the filing deadline, as they did before. They will most likely get it, as they are the same circumstances as before (a potential deal on the table, details to be worked out, but they LOVE this city and want one last chance to sit down with Sacramento, etc...). All designed to not jeopardize ticket sales for the remaining home games, rile up the crowds to pump up attendance to "show support", and tricking the foolish fans into dumping more money in the Maloofs' pockets and subsidize their departure. Expect them to file for relocation immediately after the last home game (if VB gets their ducks in a row and offers them a free arena plus relo costs).

This has all happened before, and it will happen again...

There are only 12 models of Cyloofs. We know about George, Gavin, Joe, Phil, Colleen, Mama, and Eric Rose. Who are the final five Cyloofs?

I think after last time they league would be more inclined to deny any extensions. Your forgetting Stern is not happy with them now after blowing up the arena deal. Last time he thought the city didn't have anything.

That's why I said March 2. If he wants to make sure they actually file first, then he'd wait one more day to make the announcement.
