[UTA/LAL]Talk about a paradox

Again, Pau not only straight presses 230 lbs with his left arm, he can send you flying without even moving his arm forward.

That, my friends, is the message behind the Laker Jeep vid. They are all drinking the Pau Crunk. (Note that Pau is behind the wheel...)
Buddy, pal, chum...

Don't defend Pau Gasol by talking about how someone else flopped. It makes you look bad.

Point out an example of Pau leaping for an OTB in the final 30 secs of a nailbiter. I'd be pfft if he pulled that move (at least under those circumstances). Reminded me of when Webber plopped down under the rim giving Horry a free dunk. Can't do that in a playoff game.

Agreed. This is the playoffs. Only the strong survive. If you look at the last decade teams with a reputation of being soft teams have not won nba titles.

Okur should have just nutted up and held his ground. Utah Jazz are not softies by the way. Okur Defenetily

(Every NBA Champion since 99 has not been a softie. I cant think of any soft nba teams to win the title, Waltons blazers maybe?)

and that the lakers may pass away in a freak gasoline fight accident! gargamel and hoopsfan may have to give the yoo-goo-gly.

I can't. I do know that Pau Gasol is a flopper, and a whiner when the call doesn't go his way. He tried to pull that garbage on Boozer a few minutes earlier. Boozer gave him the body a couple of times, and then on the third bump, Gasol throws himself to the ground like a toddler in Toys R Us, and when he doesn't get the call, he writhes around and takes the tantrum to the next level. It's shameful, really, the show that he put on down there.

And that's what Pau Gasol is. I followed the Grizzlies when Jason Williams got traded there, which is the same season Gasol got drafted, and he's been pulling that crap since he came in the League.

I agree that Okur's decision to try and draw the foul rather than grab the board was ridiculous, and may have cost his team the game, but Gasol flops just as much as anyone else in the NBA.

So when I say that you shouldn't chastise Okur for flopping while at the same time defending Gasol, I just mean that it's a two-edged sword that your swinging around, and you're going to cut your man down as well.

Give me a ****** break, dude. Honestly.

Criticizing Okur for being soft and pumping up Pau Gasol is like Marion Jones wagging her finger at Barry Bonds. It's ridiculously absurd.

I'm just pointing to one call, that call. Flopping will still be around when there's nothing left but cockroaches, nothing we can do to abolish it. If Pau pulls something like that in a similar situation, you won't hear a peep outta me unless it's to blame Pau. I was mum here on Sasha choosing to flop in front of Beno back in March. You pull something like that in the final secs and you deserve what you get because you leave yourself totally vulnerable. No different than trying a suicide steal at that juncture. I'm not chastising Okur the player, I'm chastising his decision and his insistence that it was a foul while Deron admits it was acting.

Fair enough. I still think you should be careful of pointing the finger when your guy is the worst one on the court in this series, and demonstrated as much in that same quarter.

Gargamel: In what universe does someone have to be able to bench the weight of a person in order to be able to move him. That point is absolutely ridiculous.

Also, another game handed to the Lakers by the refs. The 5 pt swing the refs gave the Lakers at the end of the 2nd won the game, not to mention an enormous amount of very helpful fouls or no calls for the Lakers in the 4th.

I almost want to see the Spurs win their series now. It will be hilarious to actually see the refs sweat over who to call the game for.

I was not pumping up gasol, I was just pointing out that soft teams dont really achieve much in the playoffs, and flops like okur is the reason they dont. Dont agree?

Not almost. Don't lie. You need the outlet for more hysterics.

The only people who don't see the obvious ref-catering is Laker fans. They don't see it when it happens to their team, because its the norm. Actually, the only time they notice anything is when the game starts to be called fairly.

They also don't notice it when watching other teams that are being homer-ref'd because, again, its commonplace.

Also, you might want to make light of calling someone a hysteric. Just a few posts ago you seemed to claim that shoving someone eight inches = benching their entire body weight (have you ever done a bench press?....how about shoved anyone?).

Even if we are both hysterics, its obvious it runs both ways.

Duly noted.

A very good article by a Jazz writer about officiating.

http://www.sltrib.com/sports/ci_9270197

Thanks for the link.

As much as I hate, detest and abhor the Lakers, I still hate, detest and abhor ceaseless whining about officiating more.

I like what the writer has to say:

Monson: Jazz fans crying over officiating need to stop

Please, somebody tell them to stop.

OK, I'll tell them to stop, and take the beating for it.

To all the Jazz fans who are crying . . . and crying . . . and crying about the refereeing in the Jazz-Lakers playoff series, how about this idea: Give it a rest.

It's old and it's tired and it's predictable and it's embarrassing and it's unfounded.

Drop the persecution complex.

Nobody's out to get you.

David Stern is not a grand puppet-master.

He's not Vince McMahon.

Since the end of Game 5 I've received complaints from at least a hundred fans about the Jazz getting jobbed in one form or another, or 30 anothers, by the refs.

Most of those protestations blast straight past accusations of ineptitude on the part of a few refs, and claim rather that there's a conspiracy afoot, that the NBA wants the Lakers in the Finals, and the Jazz are an inconvenience that must be dealt with by way of a crooked whistle.

C'mon, does anybody really believe that? ...

I think it's a case of the pot calling the kettle black. Gasol flops more than any other player in that series, hands down. And he whines and complains and is in general a soft player. I guess the Lakers are doomed.

If the Lakers as a team are soft than you are right we are doomed.

Gasol is not soft. He held his won defensively vs. Boozer, a strong bull down low. He will be ok with Timmie, and he will be ok with Chandler too. His usual, 20 points, 9 rebounds. I do believe he can use some lower body strength, and some legs strength so he can be stronger, and can be more of a brute and grab more rebounds. I'd like to see him work on those areas over the summer, which he most likely will. He could be stronger, but he's far from being soft, and he is mentally strong.

Well, you weren't calling Utah soft; you said as much yourself.

Utah Jazz are not softies by the way.

I am calling Gasol soft, and a [insert choice expletive here] little whiner who flops. I'm calling him infinitely softer than Mehmet Okur, and if Okur was enough to doom the Jazz, then Gasol should be enough to doom the Lakers many times over.

Go Spurs.
