Tyreke being sued

You just can't do that. And certianly not in North Philly. Or you get to be shot too, which doesn't help things.

Is not like a hit and run, where it was accidental and you can hop out of the car and say OMG are you alright!? You just drove by and intetntionally shot some dude. What are you going to do when you hop out of the car? Say I'm sorry? Either a) the guy's friends are there, and in that neighborhood there's a healthy chance somebody is armed; or b) the guy was alone, in whihc case you stop the car, and your cousin, who just shot the guy, has a great chance to finish him off (or you off for stopping). You really have no choice but to get the hell out of dodge. Now hopefully its get the hell out of dodge, dump your cousin, call the cops + ambulance. But you still can't just stop and hop out and exchange insurance information or something.
I agree, and I've seen every episode of The Wire at least twice, so I think I know what I'm talking about! ;)

Specifically in this case, there's no reason to go after Tyreke. According to all accounts, the investigation showed that he was guilty of nothing but poor judgment in driving away (which is arguable; some think the better judgment tells you to get the hell out of there). The guilty didn't get off. The guilty is doing 9-20 years.
And like I said just because the criminal investigation didn't go anywhere doesn't mean there wasnt any evidence or new information could have come to light.

The criminal investigation did go somewhere. It led to the killer, and he's behind bars. There was no evidence that could be used to indict Tyreke, there was no indication that he was a willing participant or did anything wrong. The family expressed that they are upset that Tyreke wasn't charged. It's just a vindictive act that really has no reason behind it, other than getting a check.

Well, this is the civil side, i think. And usually if you aren't criminally responsible its hard to place a money judgement over you. If they are suing him for money because he drove away, they won't get more than a couple thousand bucks, just to avoid the suit. If he is being sued on the basis that he was an accomplice to a killing, then tyreke will not have to pay a dime because they are publicly defaming him. This will be gone faster than it came, yes, it sucks to be famous and have a checkered past, but at the end of the day, Tyreke can't choose his cousin, and his actions were not on the level of a killing if you follow the word of the law; and in America WE DO.

I wish people would read the Philly Inquirer article and realize he did not drive his cousin anywhere.

I was prepared to be outraged but not after I read the description of events. You can pick your friends, but you can't pick your family.

I am glad somebody posted this. I did a little research yesterday, but he results were not from places that I could repost or link to here, so I wasn't sure how to approach this. The above is right. Basically here would be the key points:

1) Tyreke, 2 friends, and his cousin were at his aunt's house watching a football game
2) right across the street was the guy who got shot, apparently with at least 1 friend
3) I guess the game ended or something, so Tyreke went out to get the car so they could go back to his mom's house for some fresh pie she had baked + called them about,
4) then the friends and the cousin came out to hop in
5) now here is the key thing and where the mess happened:

a) the victim has been portrayed by the family as a hardworking kid with two jobs. Shooting such a kid would make no sense.
b) but the police determined that the shooting was gang related between rival gamgmemebrs
c) the kid, who remember was across the street, apparently came out when Tyreke's friends/cousins came out. I ask you why would he do that unless there was something going on?
d) now accoirding to Tyreke, one ofhis freinds starting shouting hes got a gun go go go'
e) Tyreke claims he heard one bang, and then a louder closer bang
f) so from Reke's story presumably the first bang would have bene a shot from the other guy, and the closer bang the return fire for his cousin. Now whwtehr that is true or not...
g) the police found no gun on the kid who was shot, but again he was aparently there wiht at least 1 friend who could easily have got rid of it (should have been powder on his hand I would think though if he fired it, unless he had gloves). And I cannot imagine why he would have walked outside (his friend said he had even said that there was some problem wiht the guys across the street) if not to challenge them. If not wiht a gun, then jsut being an idiot. So who knows.
h) Reke speeds off to hsi mom's house, they hear the kid has died, they cooperate, they kept the gun used etc.

So...take of that what you will. But its not a driveby. Reke didnt ferry his cousin off somewhere, have him shoot somebody as they drove by, and then drive off. Nor was he a getaway driver. He was at his aunt's watching a football game -- it might be ignorant to claim him as some sort of innocent that had no idea there were problems or anything. But he certainly did not need to know that his cousin was going to shoot the guy. And indeed, its even possible the guy came out of the house armed, or his friend did, and that there was an exchange. So a real mess, like these things in these neighborhoods often are. But not anything that necessarily points out Tyreke as a bad guy, a banger, or anything else.
