TV ALERT - Pat Summitt on "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno"

#1
From CSTV.com, the legend herself, Lady Vols coach Pat Summitt will
appear on NBC-TV's "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno" tonight (Monday, April
23rd). In Sacramento, it's on KCRA, channel 3.

The only other times that I can recall any women's basketball figure making an appearance on Leno's show are Lisa Leslie (after the 1996 Olympics) and Margo Dydek (in 1997 when she was with the Utah Starzz).

I wonder if Jay is going ask Pat about Don Imus' recent comments toward the
Rutgers team?

I taped the show, but haven't had the time to see the playback yet. When I get the chance I can prepare a transcript of what Jay and Pat discussed.

In the meantime, here's an article on Pat's appearance:

LADY VOLS COACH SUMMITT VISTS "TONIGHT SHOW"

By TERRY MORROW, Morrow2@knews.com
April 24, 2007

Tennessee women's basketball coach Pat Summitt brought a bit of the Big Orange to Tinsel Town on Monday night.

Summitt, who led the Lady Vols to a seventh national championship with a 59-46 victory over Rutgers on April 3, made her maiden appearance on "The Tonight Show."

A comfortable and talkative Summitt chatted with host Jay Leno about how she started in basketball, her early days coaching and her thoughts on the recent Don Imus/Rutgers controversy.

She recalled learning Imus had made sexist and racial remarks about the Rutgers women's basketball team around the time of the finals.

"I thought, 'how inappropriate,' " Summitt said, but added, "there were consequences for Imus's behavior."

As a result of his comments, Imus lost his radio and television shows.
Asked if the Imus controversy overshadowed the Lady Vols' victory, Summitt was confident.

"Nothing is going to take away (from) the championship (win)," she said.
Summitt touted her own players for the team's success.

Leno also played video of Summitt's appearance earlier this year at the UT men's game against Florida.

In a show of support for the men's team, after men's coach Bruce Pearl had showed up at a Lady Vols game painted orange, Summitt showed up wearing a cheerleader's uniform and sang "Rocky Top," much to the delight of the crowd.

Earlier on Monday, Summitt told WBIR's "Live At Five" she was "excited" over her "Tonight" appearance, but also saw it as a great "opportunity" for shining the light on her team.
