True Class

That is really horrible. Their reasoning is just stupid to me. Maybe some jerk could sue the Clippers over something Clipper Darrell says or does, but really. And so what if he does makes some bucks off of being Clipper Darrell. Proof (as if we needed more) that D. Sterling is a slimeball and a cheap one at that.

Have you all read Plaschke's article? Apparently, clipper darrel hasn't paid for a ticket in years. The Clips do want him coming to games, and love having him there. They have supplied him with premium tickets for free for years. They just don't want him gaining off personal ventures by using their name.

Not saying I agree with it, but I don't think it's as bad as some make it seem.

Yeah, it was in the yahoo article too I wondered why nobody mentioned it.

no. i think its just as bad as some make it seem...

giving free tickets to a fan as loyal and passionate as clipper darrell is a gesture of good will from a perpetually beleaguered franchise that otherwise botches and blunders every public relations opportunity available to them. castigating that same loyal and passionate fan after the team finally starts winning is, quite possibly, one of the biggest blunders of them all...

you reward faith and commitment like clipper darrell's. you applaud his outreach on behalf of the same community your team occupies. and when your owner has a nasty history of racism, you certainly do not attempt to distance yourselves from one of the most celebrated and recognized fans across the entire nba when he happens to be black. its an absolute PR nightmare, and clippers management should be ashamed to work for someone like donald sterling...

ultimately, it rings out as an utterly unsubtle communique to your fanbase that screams, "all you are to us is a collection of $$$ signs!! so throw your money at us because lob city's the best game in town!! thank you, and don't forget to tell your friends that we're greedy *******s!!" i hope cp3 declines to extend after next season and the blake show takes his talent somewhere else...

Absolutely horrible.

If they wanted to control his behavior and minimize risk, what they should have done is bring him on as a formal employee. Have him essentially be a human mascot. Send him to some road games. Have him invite a friend or two and have them dress the same way. They could have used the goodwill he's garnered in so many positive ways. They could have rallied a small section of seats around him. Made a special "Clipper Darrell" section.

The dude wore all black to a game to express his mourning over this.

The Clipper could still salvage this though. Just admit they made a mistake, that they've been touched by the outpouring of support.... blah blah blah... and them bring him on as a part time employee.

Can you imagine if the Kings did something like that to sign lady? Frankly I can't.

The two sides came to an agreement before the Clippers returned home after their road trip and Bailey was back in his usual seat in Section 107 on March 11 when the Clippers played the Golden State Warriors.

The agreement was more of a clarification than anything else. The Clippers wanted to be notified of appearances Bailey was making under the "Clipper Darrell" name and also wanted Bailey to be careful of possible endorsement deals he was considering accepting as "Clipper Darrell."

"We have a mutual understanding of what my role is now," Bailey said. "Nothing has changed. I'm still doing what I've been doing, but I'm letting the Clippers know when I make certain appearances.
