Tropical Island Draft Threads -- 2011 Editions

I suppose I'll throw my hat into the music draft, as it is the entire repertoire of the artist. Similar to GoGoGadget's Alternative Rules Music Draft way back when...

Go ahead and put me down.

I do have one question - I think it was mentioned that artists with bands and solo projects would be treated separately, but what if about an artist that is predominantly a solo act but the name of their backup band changes? IE Joe Bob and the Blue Notes, Joe Bob and the Blue Tones and Joe Bob and the Blue Note Band. Would picking Joe Bob be enough? (and yes, some major major artists did this).

Yeah, I know, I had considered those cases from the beginning. I know how I think it should go with several individual cases, but have not yet written up the rules to handle everybody. Also things like the "featuring" aspect of hip hop songs etc. details details... :)

a few initial thoughts would be that if the remainder of the group remians substantially the same, then a title featuring, or de-featuring the lead singer should not matter, and that a group is still the same group even if it changes lead singers (gets tough once we get to old groups that only have 1 original member or something of course, then agian few of those are still recording).

I would just hope it would err in favor of the first to pick an artist if it ever came up with #1 picking Joe Bob and #2 saying Ha, Joe Bob only released one album as Joe Bob, I pick Joe Bob and The Band ZING!

My suggestion is to use allmusic.com's artist discography section, from what I can tell solo artists who also prominently featured in a named act do not crossover but there are no distinctions when those artists released solo albums with different backing bands.

As for rappers and other collabo projects, it would seem that credit should go to the artist who puts the track on their album, both if both do, and XXX in the case of XXX featuring YYY in the case of a single only?

bumpy bumpy

with the Movies draft now completed and the playoffs about to begin, time to start putting together the music draft. Think we are 10 at the moment. Room for another half a dozen or so.

I'm in with the music artist draft.

I know my selections wouldn't be a variety of genres, but it should be fun.

Alrigth, Music Draft has 11, room for 5 more.

I'll be typing up the rules and opening the draft thread come Sunday/Monday.

Okay, well 2 months later, the Music draft has gone along at a nice clip and by all rights should have carried us over to the beginning of the season. Unfortunately the idiots are still fighting, and it could get long and ugly. So, what is the best possible antidote to something ugly? Why something pretty of course! Specifically Pretty Girls!

I have been holding off hoping that starting another "summer" tropical island draft would not be necessary and we'd be back to talking hoops. But its still not happening, and the sides may be digging in. So...screw 'em. There are other ways to amuse ourselves. I'm going to give them one last weekend here to heroically step forward and announce the miracle season saving agreement. But if come Tuesday there is still nothing and we're looking at the long winter (or summer if you're in the land down under) with no Kings, then I think it wil be time to start up Hot Babe Draft II -- The Babes of Winter.

Anybody with an interst can start throwing their hat in the ring now. We won't start if it looks like a deal is imminent (although games would still be a month off even if that's true). But if things look like they are going to stretch on toward Christmas...well they will leave us little choice wion;t they?

I'm torn. I don't know that I can draft as well as I did last time, yet, it's Pretty Girls™ II. How can I say no? I can't. I've got my list of 75 deep. (I did a lot of research.)

I'm down for drafting girls if you decide to run it. I have a question about how it works though. Since this is all fantasy anyway, are we drafting women as they were in their prime, like if I draft a 1950s starlet, do i get her as she was in the 1950s or as she is now?
