Just a heads up. The entire Tonight Show is going to be dedicated to Johnny Carson. Ed McMahon is going to be there, along with some of his favorite guests and some of the comedians who got their starts on the show.

Wow! That was a great show... Jay started off by giving a nice essay about Johnny.

He had rd on then showed some clips then Newhardt & Rickles and more clips.

After that Drew Carrey showed all the Standup acts that were on. I missed KD Langs sopot though.

I was a teary slug I have to say.

I hear Carson hated Leno. NBC helped ease Johnny out in favor of a much less expensive Leno. Carson also wanted Letterman as his replacement.

It brought tears to my eyes more than once, too. And it was readily apparent that Leno was touched and holding back tears as he read the piece.

I really enjoyed Rickles and Newhart, especially since I had been under the obviously mistaken impression that Rickles had died.

My favorite part last night was the bits with the animals. There was something special about Johnny Carson. I was privileged to be able to see his show taped one time. The guests were Charles Nelson Reilly, Johnny Mathis and a sweet little old lady from Florida (in her 80s) who was waging a one-woman campaign on her rickety old bicycle to recycle cans from along the beach in her town. Off camera after her segment was over - where only the studio audience could see it - Johnny surprised her with a brand-new bicycle. It was obvious she was totally and completely touched and he actually seemed a little embarrassed at her tears of gratitude. That was the measure of the man, IMHO, and I never forgot it.
