Travis Outlaw:

in reality, this team isnt going to sign a big time FA. Our team needs to stock pile talent any chance it gets and then make trades.

Our team does not need to sign big time FAs! What this team needed to to was get quality players that fit with the cornerstones of this franchise. So far we have failed miserably at that and in the process blown up majority of our cap space.

If we bring Dalembert back (now ever more unlikely than yesterday) then you can say it was a reasonable pre-season but what we have done so far is blown majority of our cap space on sweet **** all and in the process we did not get better. It wouldn't be too hard to argue that we are worse than when we finished the season last year.

Last time I checked Glenn, they made and effort to sign Jamal Crawford, and Kirilenko. I'm assuming that they made an offer to Dalembert, but can't verify it. Lets face it, this was a poor freeagent class. There were just a few at the top and after that, all that was left was the Crawfords of the world.

Exactly, this free agent class wasn't going to net anything great anyway, unless you wanted to really overpay for a niche star level role player.

Last I checked the main reason to be excited where these guys named Evans and Cousins. Now adding some potential steal complimentary role players while retaining flexibility to make moves in the future? Nice offseason!

Hopefully Hayes comes back soon, I think he'll be serving up some serious crow to many here.

I'll wait to see the team suit up before I judge. Worse? We'll see, we'll see.

Outlaw was actually quite decent while playing in Portland. Not sure why he started to suck in NJ. Must be the complacence of having secured a long contract, maybe. He'll most likely come from the bench behind Salmons.

He used to be called Mr. 4th quarter in Portland, btw.

Good thing about this pickup is that we only pay him 3M, a bargain considering the potential if he returns to his Trailblazer form.

Here we go again, another player who doesn't play defense and requires a lot of shots (10 per game) to perform at his best.
As someone already said I would have preferred to throw more years/money at AK or Dally rather than picking up another mediocre player.

Jason Jones: Spoke with Travis Outlaw's agent, Bill Duffy, who said Outlaw's injured wrist if fine, Outlaw practiced day he was waived. Twitter

Well the way Cisco and Greene played last night, Travis might have a chance beating out both of them for minutes behind Salmons

Who were we gonna go after with a reasonable chance of getting that we did not? Let's be realistic. I admit that im disappointed with our seeming ambivalence related to Dalembert but I really don't think we missed out on any other chances we might have had.

Why cannot it boil down to Dalembert? He doesn't need as much of a pre-sseason as some of the players and could step right in, he could step right in and play a role a lot of teams do not have, and he plays it decently. One guy is who the Kings should have signed (and may still) and he was ours. This borders on imbecilic and I even looked up the word to place it here. At this point I have written off AK for several reasons. I wasn't hot on him from the beginning because I thought it might end up in chaos with Salmons. There is Kris Humphries. Kris is a rebounder and a bit of a banger at that. I don't have a clue if he can block shots more than what you would expect from a 6'9" muscled guy. I'd settle for him at this point but the obvious cannot be shucked aside.

We need to and should be able to sign Daly. Good grief, have Cuz call him and beg. Get it done. He makes a huge difference and with the addition of a healthy Hayes gives us two kinds of defensive specialists that can cause a lot of problems for any opponent in the paint. GS feasted on us in the paint. Paint defense is a problem. Daly protects Cuz. He would allow Cuz to stay out of foul trouble if that's possible.

One guy. I am more than disappointed. I am out right angry.

I don't have a clue what Crawford would have done for us. In one silly ugly played pre-season game Jimmer showed he can augment Thornton as an outside shooter and I doubt Crawford is better. There were about 5 bigs of good quality with Daly at the bottom. That's a LOT of players where we need help.

So why sell it for years that THIS is our year. You generally know years in advance what the free agency pool is going to be like. We pushed for the summer of 2011 when everyone else was clearing cap room for summer of 2010.

The problem is that we have used up majority of our cap space without actually getting much better because we now have more holes than we did at the end of last year but the problem is we have blown up most of our cap space without actually getting significantly better. Thats just about the biggest sin you can do in basketball. It takes years to rebuild and create cap space but just one off season to **** it all up. Not saying that we have done it but we have blown most of the cap space and we are not a lot better, if at all actually.

Actually, there were players that if you looked into the future from lets say 3 or 4 years ago, that were projected to be freeagents this offseason. But because they were able to force their team to extend them and then trade them, they wern't available. Thats just the nature of the beast, or the luck of the draw if you will. We still have around 7 or 8 mil in capspace. So at the end of next season, we'll still have the opportunity to amnesty Cisco if we need to. Plus Thompson, Greene, and Hickson will all be restricted freeagents. Something tells me we won't resign all three. So if needed, we could easily be 14 or so mil under the cap next offseason.

As far as having more holes and not getting significantly better. I'm not one to jump to conclusions, nor immediately take a negative stance. We haven't even played one game that counts yet. Your entitled to your opinion, but it counts about as much as mine if I said were lookinig great and we're definitely going to make the playoffs. Which I'm not saying!. I don't know how good this team is going to be. I know that Cousins is going to be a lot better this season. I know our SF position is going to be improved this season. I know having Thornton for a full season is going to make a positive difference. I feel fairly confident about those three things.

I'm hopeful that Evans will be healthy, and that his overall game will improve. I'm hopeful that Fredette will make a quick adustment to the NBA and that his presence will have some impact on the overall play of the team. I'm hopeful that Greene has finally matured as a player and becomes consistent. I'm hopeful that Hayes man defense and overall smarts as a player will help make up for Dalemberts absence. Im hopeful that Thompson settles in as a consistent role player that can give you 20 plus minutes a game. I'm hopeful that Hickson makes me forget that Beno was ever on our team.

As you can see my hopefuls far exceed those things I'm confident about. That leaves a lot of unknowns about this team. I don't expect to have an answer to those unknowns until were at least 20 or so games into the season. Unfortunately, its a short season, and by then, our destiny could already be determined. I was hopeful that we could start this season with the team that ended last season. But it doesn't look likely at the moment. So were starting new, and that takes time. And that takes patience. Something in short supply on this fourm at times. When I was young, I wasn't very patient either, so I understand. And I'm not talking about anyone in particular.

Anyway, I agree that if were talking about being a top competitive team, that we still have some holes to fill. No argument there! But I don't think were as far away as some think. We'll have a better idea at the end of this season.

Jesus Christ, I miss the days when we could get some big names or semi-big names and they would thrive in Sac.

It's like after 01-02, we started trading off all our players, getting consistently ****tier deals, leading up to now where we have players who aren't as proven to the point where we can't trade for crap, really, without making some several player deal, and no one else would put up a big player to sac.

Sigh. I mean, no going after AK? :/. I just don't know why they wouldn't.

On a side note, Bobby J and Christie are helping out with the team...someone should ask Vlade and C Webb to do some work with these younguns. They could benefit.

The days we got "semi-big names" The guys we got nobody wanted. Jim Jackson was sitting at home not working out with any team and we called him. We have never pulled in big named free agents. all the players we got we drafted or traded for.

Actually they have an offer on the table for Kirilenko. Or at least they did. So far he seems content to stay in Russia.

If I were the Maloofs, I will consider replacing our GM with someone who works harder and more aggressive - someone who does not shy away from trying the impossible. We need an active GM and not a passive GM who always gets the crumbs comes trading season. We needed more than just an excellent talent evaluator for a GM.

I'm pretty sure that he practiced with the team today. I remember getting a tweet to that affect, but am too lazy to go back and look for it.

I think you're memory is a bit foggy. Sacramento has never been a destination for big names.
period.

Just speculating but if you were the Maloofs you wouldn't want to spend a penny over the minimum....so I don't see you replacing someone that would spend more aggressively.

But lets say they are willing to spend. So how much would you be willing to offer AK47 or Dally? i assumed we did offer them something but they're not coming here unless you pay big. So what's the max would you offer them before folding? Beside them, who else could we consider?

I'm asking because I don't know much about being a GM and would like guys that know more informed me.

A bona fide shot jacker. Terrible signing. Even more terrible considering the progress of Donte and plans for bringing in Kirilenko.

You mean like Vlade? Or Webber? To name a couple. Christie? Bibby, Peja, and so on? Even getting Ron Artest was a pretty big name.

Not big names like say, Kobe (shudder), but still, I think Petrie has become way too passive, hoping to save some cash and find the diamond in the rough, and pay less, than shell out for a vet. Could just be my opinion though.

Vlade was getting out of a location he was traded to, Webber was traded here, Christie was traded here, Bibby was traded here, Peja was drafted and became a relatively big name here, and Artest had more baggage than a luggage cart which was why he was traded here.

Only one of those players actually signed here initially, which is the biggest hurdle this team faces.

They resigned because they were overpaid to stay with a winning team they enjoyed, but only Vlade chose to come here.

Webber, Bibby, Christie were all traded here and then totally over paid. Ron was traded here. Peja was drafted here and resigned to stay with the Euro-trio.

Over 25 years, Sacramento has a very poor history of getting free agents to come here. True even during the glory days. Except for Clark, the guys that became the bench mob didn't have much value before they came here.

Only Vlade signed here and that was because he wanted to come back to California and the Clippers didn't make him a good offer.
