Trade to help the Kings

both teams hate it.... prolly means its a good trade...... i personally dont like it cuz as of right now bibby is the heart and soul of the team..... if u take the heart out of the team you get the same result as taking the heart out of someones body

It isn't a matter of both teams hating it. It really doesn't matter how much the Kings like or hate the deal, the point is that the Clippers simply wouldn't do it.

They are counting on Livingston being a star. Why would they possibly hinder his development by trading away their best frontcourt player and bring in another PG to start in front of him? It isn't as if they could play in the backcourt together. Livingston would get killed by opposing SGs and Bibby is a terrible enough defender as it is.

No, if the Clippers can have just a decent offseason (not an incredibly likely proposition - they ARE the Clippers) and re-sign Simmons and/or Jaric, then I think there is a realistic chance that they make the playoffs and the Kings don't.

I'd trade Bibby, Miller and Peja for one real star.

It's much easier to rebuild around one great player than three good players, especially when they each have defensive/toughness problems.

It's fun to speculate on just how radical Petrie will be over the next couple of months. IMHO i think he will take a more evolutionary approach, making subtle changes to the roster, but avoiding a 'big bang' approach of rubbing out our current 'core'.

Unfortunately such a softly-softly agenda could mean that while we dont languish outside the playoff places (as we might) for a season or two while the rebuild is established we wont have made enough of a difference to this seasons team to make significant progress either.

In a separate thread Bricklayer makes reference to how there are noteworth instances of team rebuilds where the team in question has a quiet season or two and then really dominates...Miami was one of the cases in point.

So whilst i agree with you Funky, significant changes bring with it significant short term risk. Some nagging doubt in my mind says our GM wont be prepared to bet the farm on such a bold, sweeping change. Why, because i dont think the current management / owners necessarily think our current roster is as uncompetitive as certain fans who post here.

I would love to see Elton Brand playing for the Kings. But I can't see the Clips even considering this deal. Bibby's value is lower than Brand's, and Jaric's value, if healthy, is roughly equal to that of Thomas (even though Jaric is more talented). A little known fact about Jaric is that him and Manu played on the same team in Italy (they won a championship together). At the time they entered the NBA, scouts thought that Jaric's upside was bigger than Manu's. Unfortunately for the Clips, it hasn't played out that way.

With the acquisition of Garcia, I think the odds of picking up Jaric have fallen precipitously. Could still happen, in particular if we do something with Bobby -- Jaric would make an interesting, if radically different, combo 1/2 off the bench and would even feature the same lack of durability (not a good thing). But now we've got TWO young OGs, our last two first round picks, and throwing another player in front of them who is not a clear stud would seem like a waste.
