Trade Deadline Thread

Don't know if we are shopping Fox, but it's certainly possible. Assuming we are, we need to remember a few things
  • His large salary means that you can't just exchange him for a young player and picks. You have to take back salary.
  • If you want to press reset, you try to find a deal to take on some expiring salaries + assets, or some bad contract with a lot more assets.
  • Easier said than done though, and needless to say, depends on the market.
  • It's not necessarily a Vivek/Monte thing. Just the nature of the beast, though the direction they set will certainly influence the kind of deals they look for.
  • Whatever be the the situation, no GM will like to do a fire sale to get pennies on the dollar. Even in tank mode, you try to get the maximum possible assets, and don't sell just for the sake of selling.
  • Particularly, when the player you are trading is a young, talented player playing reasonably well, and signed long term. You don't trade away such players for a rebuild. You acquire them. We may feel that his play is not worth his contract, but that can happen with many players.
  • As for the PG position being more valuable, it can be argued if the wing position is more valuable. Either way, in our case we have an overcrowded backcourt, and if we can move one of the three guys to balance out the roster, it might be a win.
  • While I like Fox, I think as of now, he is more likely to get traded than Hali/Davion.
  • I will say though that I am not yet completely sold on the Hali/Davion backcourt. Initial signs are encouraging, but we did lose most of these games (while we expected to lose most anyway, we got obliterated in a few). More importantly though, they have to do it over a longer period to generate confidence.
There's a good chance Fox has already been traded and he's in mothballs waiting for the deadline to have the paperwork go through. His sitting out with "ankle soreness" that "occurred" three weeks ago makes no sense. A negative MRI and his coach saying he could play on it three weeks ago if it were a playoff game raises many question marks. I just hope that the Kings get back something better than Randle.

Regarding Randle, I just don't see how he would be a good complement for Halliburton, who is the centerpiece of this team. Players like J. Collins, Huerter, and Hunter (lucky Atlanta) would all complement Halliburton's game. But a ball handling pf with mediocre outside shooting and defense like Randle?? Poorly fitting pieces is one of the main reasons behind the poor performance of this team, so why would we add another ill fitting piece?

it’s possible but if a deal is done just pull the trigger. No reason to wait for the deadline and pretty awkward for the player

Monte is a bad gm cuz he hasn’t traded for simmons or sabonis yet. Geez monte, do something. Anything!
I’ve always said that trading Hali for Simmons was a non-starter, so Moreys position made it easier for Monte to walk. That said, results matter. This is his window, Go into next season with Vlade’s core intact and the Kings will have a new GM by this time next year.

Cuz he had 32/16/7 on a sub .500 team against a sub .500 team last night. People pick and choose when stats on a bad team matter apparently and whether stats > fit. I agree, if we’re trading fox and building around ty. Give me someone who can can at least do 2 out 3 in being able finish, shoot the 3 or play defense.

There’s .0001 chance fox was traded over a week ago and were just waiting AND it hasn’t leaked. Also, that’s not how trades work.
There is a large chance that he was/is still being discussed in trades and either the front office and/or Fox himself, didn't want to take a chance of an injury blowing up the trade

This is my timeline too. It's pretty difficult to tear down an expensive core mid-season all at once. But the process needs to start now (whether that's retool or reset) and needs to be finished by the start of next season.

If more than 2 of Fox/Buddy/Bagley/Barnes/Holmes are still on this team by then, he'll be donezo.

I don't know about that. But if more than 2 of Fox/Buddy/Bagley/Barnes/Holmes are still on this team after the trade deadline, I'LL be gonno!:D

While I can appreciate the sentiment, it's a tall order for any GM to trade at least three major rotation players right on the cusp of the trade deadline, especially when factoring in the hefty contacts for Fox and Hield.

You're essentially guaranteeing your own departure. ;)

Unfortunate they probably had to give up Okoro. Garland-Levert-Okoro-Mobley-Allen would have been absolutely dirty.

Edit: Wow! No Okoro!
All they really had to give up was their pick this year and it’s lotto protected and lol most likely convey this season as the 22-27th overall pick.
