[NBA] Trade Deadline Season 2026 Open Thread

Poeltl is not cheap - but he's basically making Keegan money, which is not...terrible? He could be an albatross contract for an older team with established vets making big $$$, but for a rebuild he's not horrible. Gotta pay somebody, there's a salary floor!

What Poeltl is is an established C who can rebound (not on the Domas level), can move the ball a bit (not on the Domas level), plays decent defense (better than Domas) and shoots very high percentages because he basically takes all of his shots at the rim. Obviously he will not spread the floor.

If we want to move away from having our C position be a primary offensive hub and creator, Poeltl isn't a terrible fit. He's a bit overpaid, but I can see trying to move forward with a Poeltl/Raynaud/Cardwell as a defense-first frontline trio, each grabbing 20-25 minutes in the C/PF positions (leaving some TBD at the PF, which could potentially be picked up by somebody like an Achiuwa).

Grabbing Poeltl would actually be compatible with drafting 4 of the (current) top 5 prospects (with Wilson being the awkward fit who would slide in better next to Domas in my eyes). But if we were to draft a primary on-ball guy like Dybantsa/Peterson/Flemings it would be possible to move away from "big" investments in the frontline. Even Boozer would work OK, because he's going to play as more of a 4, though there would likely be some minutes crunch on the frontline in that case.

So I can see such a thing working.

That said, Domas is far, far more valuable than Poeltl as a piece, so the pick haul coming back would have to be real. No "two SRPs" here. Toronto has all of their FRPs available, so they'd need to pay up with a couple of those and maybe some swaps.

People are gonna whine about Poeltl saying he's an "albatross" contract and player, but this right on the money. But I guess we can't ask for much more from a fanbase that does everything it can to diminish what Domas does for us

Yeh it seems those scoring guards who don’t play defense have limited value. Jalen Green, Lavine, Mathurin, Norm Powell, Kuminga and even Shaedon Sharpe.

I know a lot the basketball hipsters love Missi and there's certainly some fun skill-set traits with him, but I think he's just too small to stick as a starting caliber big down the line. He's very limited on offense, mainly as a really nice PnR and lob threat, but his best trait as a shot blocker and defensive presence just gets gobbled up by size.

Welp, here we go. Crazy we're at this point, but I suppose it's needed. Hope he goes to TOR for a chance to shut the idiots up he can't compete in the playoffs. Love the fit with Him/Scottie/Ingram
I like the fit but damn I don't know if he'd be happy with so much of his off-season and his wife's interest in Napa. I know our obligation isn't to his personal life but that's gonna be rough.

We've learned words are fairly cheap with this power structure. Nice to hear this, but I do not care at all if we're past the deadline with Keon Ellis and Monk being the only guys to get shipped out. Get it done.
I've been vouching for a full-blown rebuild for so long that I am not holding my breath. I will believe it only when I see it with my own two eyes.

That being said, my only message to Scott (and Vivek) right now is...

GET.
IT.
DONE.

I don't care how. Just do it.

Given what's going on with Scott rn I am thinking it may be the middle of next week before we see any Kings transactions.

I don't have high expectations for the trade deadline.

Zach/ Deebo / Schroeder - I don't see them attracting that strong interest from anyone.

It will be sad if Sabonis leaves. Also don't anticipate getting a 'haul' for him. Maybe a Fox style package.

That would be pretty funny if Schroder was really on the trade block. Shows you that Perry really thought he was going to make a run this year by signing him and now realizes that he has a marginal impact on the game. Things we all pretty much collectively already knew here.

I went and checked out who Evan Sidery is.

Evan Sidery is a credentialed writer who has been covering the Phoenix Suns since 2017. He has previously written for Forbes and SB Nation's Bright Side of the Sun.

I can’t say it’s illegitimate, since Mr. Sidery himself doesn’t even attempt to cite sources (e.g., “sources told me…”). That suggests he’s likely speculating as well, which means I could post the exact same tweet on my own platform with the same level of legitimacy. All I know is, as a professional writer, you have to work, preferably more frequent than not, in order to earn your salary.

But hey, fans gonna be fan-atics, right?

He's an aggregator of rumors and generally just posts those rumors as if they are going to happen.

He said gap year before signing him. If he pulls off a trade I'd say it was more an educated gamble that a team would be desperate for a PG at the deadline and willing to deal (Houston for sure is in this position but not sure they will want Schröder).

I'm only going to whine about Ellis being a throw-in. Of the teams with reported interest though, I like the potential trades with Phoenix and Washington better. Toronto only has expensive vets to trade while Phoenix and Washington would have to throw in someone on a rookie contract.

Given Ellis's contract the only trades that make sense to me are either outgoing to a team with the space to just send us a FRP or as sweetener for a bad contract. I don't view any Toronto deal for Domas as needing sweetening on our end.

We'll see. All of the noise so far suggests that none of these potential deals are getting across the finish line unless we put Keon in the mix because he's the one guy other teams actually want. And I still think regardless of what else happens, giving away a player like Keon Ellis at all is bad business. Other teams quickly identify their best 3 and D players and lock them up long term. Even the bad teams are trying to hang onto their 3 and D guys. If we can't move LaVine, Monk, DeRozan etc. without sacrificing a young good player than just don't trade them and buy them out or let them expire. I certainly would agree that we shouldn't need to add a sweetener to a Domas deal but does our front office share that point of view? I'm not sure. We'll find out soon I suppose.

I don't see why the Raps are making a move for Sabonis, he operates in the same vicinity of Scottie. wouldn't work in my opinion. What can Raps offer though? Barrett, Quickley, Poetl are win now players. a draft pick for 2026 will be in the 20s, I'd go after draft picks in 3 to 5 years down the road instead
