[NBA] Trade Deadline Season 2026 Open Thread

Clips have 3 second round picks. This year (top 42 protected) ‘31 and ‘32. There is zero chance that any combination of those picks is best offer.

Are they desperate enough to also send us some draft capital?
They'll be forced to send us junk we don't want (probably Buddy, unfortunately) because they are hard capped in which case we'll have to send expiring to match, so yeah I think they'd better give us a pick too.

The trade machines say JK for DDR straight up works… I know there’s a bunch of new(ish) apron/cap stuff I’m unfamiliar with, do they not take that into account?

Not according to Spotrac's.

TBH part of those figures don't make sense but I still trust them on salary matters.

Someone clearly didn't take enough Bronson Reed Tsunamis over the weekend. Time to step up your game, SLABster! :p:p:p

One other thing that has to be considered is the tax implications for next year. If we trade Deebo for Kuminga that puts us over the luxury tax for next season I believe.

Yeah but we can move players to manage (it may not next year but it would THIS year, so have to get off Saric or McBuckets or Russ).

If we kept DDR on the player option, would that still be the case? Or is this assuming we 100% buy him out (if he's still on the team)

This is AI talking but the luxury tax is 187 for next year. If we pick up Deebo’s option we would be at 189. Not sure if that includes the draft pick salary slot. It does not include a contract for Dylan. Precious would get a raise if he is back too. It’s my understanding we would need to decline Deebo’s contract to stay under the luxury.

There will need to be movement for sure, wonder if this is part of the Keon equation?

I’m sure it is. If we are going to trade him, I’d rather get draft capital and then buy out Deebo next year or move him for an expiring. You could make an argument for attaching Keon to get off Lavine’s money but that’s just being impatient and might not help us all that much.

When I posted about Jimmy for Zach nobody wanted to talk about it. 2028 and 2031 are really interesting especially since Steph definitely has to be in the LeBron stage of his career by then if he hasn't hung it up by 2031 and since that actually becomes most favorable of SA/GSW (in practicality I am assuming our pick is gone) I like it a lot.

I have no idea if Jimmy will come back next year and if not would that net us compensation or would he need to medically retire. I also think no chance in hell he'd want to play for us so if he did intend to return he'd accept a buyout that might get us out of tax territory.
