This season's trading deadline was shocking for most people around the league. Instead of executives just posturing on the phone with only one or two trades getting done, eleven deals were consummated last Thursday.

Deadline day is always among the most stressful days for players and coaches alike. I have been on buses getting ready to leave arenas, waiting to see if we had to get a player off because he had just been dealt. I've been on a plane getting ready to fly to another city, and we had to hold on the tarmac for an hour for the same reason. And I've known that a player is going to be traded immediately after practice that day. It isn't easy parting with players to whom you have grown attached. Moving, leaving families behind, living out of a suitcase and developing new chemistry with a new team is harder than you think. But if the deal can improve the team, it's imperative to always seize the opportunity and get better – or you as a coach could be next.
