Thoughts From The Game (Actually Attended) Some Interesting Notes

Any thoughts on how Maggette looked? Sounds as if he had a pretty good game, and at least it appears that he can act like a professional in a "bad" situation. If the Clippers would still take him, I say the Kings pull the trigger.

4cwebb - After tonight's performances, I don't think the Clippers are gonna be in any kind of hurry to trade Maggette for Artest. Artest stunk up the court. Check the grade thread and the game discussion thread. Maggette, on the other hand, looked good.

Magette did look good tonight...as well as the other clips (brand especially)...one of their better games this season, i think. I just hate it was against us.

hey sacblaze! i might have heard you out there...faintly im sure as clipper darrel sat a section from us. (Have you all heard about this guy? im sure many of you do. he has got an amazingly loud birdlike voice and leads the cheering for the clips...a human loudspeaker, really)

Ron was wincing because he has a bruise on the back of his knee. Muss talked about it before the game. He collided with Allen Henderson or something like that during the 76ers game. That wouldn't hinder any trade.

That being said pull the trigger on the Artest for Maggette trade NOW. I've been level headed about this so far, but Ron is no good to us if he won't play for us. He was sore, sure, but he's given up on the team.

Maggette can hustle, shoot, defended well and rebounded well. Let's get him. I like the kid a lot.

After seeing the game I'm all for getting Maggette, Ron sure looked bad today. The Kings are so disorganized right now. We have way too much 1 on 1 play, and are missing so many wide open shots it's crazy. I thought Artest could get us more then Maggette, but now we'd be pretty lucky to get Mag. I hate to say it because I like Ron and am mad at the rumors I'm hearing about him wanting out, not getting along with teamates, his injuries and his # of missed games already this season etc.

I like Salmons a lot and he is such a more rounded player and the team does great with him distributing, I kind of see Mag and Salmons being somewhat redundant with Mag being the better scorer, but both doing very similar things and being similar sizes etc.

Thanks. I'm hoping that one bad game by Artest when his head wasn't in the game won't dissuade the Clippers from trading talent which normally languishes on the bench because he doesn't get along with Dunleavy (which begs the question in my mind about whether the Clippers have the best coach...).

And while Maggette may not be a true #1 offensive option, I'd take him in heartbeat over Artest (just from an offensive standpoint). Maggette doesn't have the post game that Artest does, but he's a much more complete offensive player imho, and certainly knows how to consistenly use his athleticism to get to the basket and to the free throw line. Artest's offensive game has never been the equal of the true offensive players, and as has been discussed, he sometimes struggles when he attempts to take on that role.

So, if the Clippers aren't going to use Maggette, no need to keep him...especially if they believe that Brand (and his cohorts) can keep Artest in line. If I'm the Clippers my biggest worry is that they have too much offensive talent to keep Artest happily involved...heck, Kaman doesn't even get as many looks as he should just because he's on the same team as Brand. I can't imagine Artest is going to get too many good looks in the post on that Clipper team.

....or, Ron let him play well on purpose to entice us to get Maggette so Ron can go to L.A.

Nice thought, but if reports are true that we contacted LA to specifically ask if they were still interested in Artest, I don't think we're the crew that needs convincing.

Which is scary.

The painful truth is that after the "performance" Artest put on tonight, right in front of Donald Sterling, you have to wonder if the Clippers would even consider a Maggette-Artest trade at this point.

I think the Clippers Management would. They aren't dumb. If Artest is truly unhappy, then they know his performance is because of that, also because of soreness in his leg from a bruise.

The Clippers have a need, and that is to move Maggette. And, just like when we were trying to move Peja, Artest is the best player on the market with the type of salary to make a straight up swap work.

The only thing they'd want probably is to talk to Artest first to find out:

1) Are you unhappy right now?

2) If so, why?

3. What can we as an organization do to prevent this from happening and keep everyone on the same page?

4. This is what we will expect from you, and want you to do in our system. Are you ok with that? Is this a system that will work for you?

If they get satisfactory answers to those questions directly from Ron, I think they'd do the deal. I think most people would want to ask those questions of Ron. I know I would.

Actually I meant worried about what Ron could potentially do to this team ala Pacers.:(

What are people so worried about? This team sucks. Look at the record, look at the way they play with and without him. The Pacers had talent and lots of their players were right in their prime. We have two overpaid past-their-prime stars, a shooting guard who's just tapping his scoring potential and the rest of the roster is comprised of has-beens and young guards who may or may not turn into something. Even when Ron was putting up an insane statline of 18ppg, 9rpg, 4apg, 3+stl and over a block a game this team was unimpressive and obviously needed major help.

I disagree. I do not think one bad game would/should change the mind of the Clips - or any other team for that matter. I think that they understand he has really good talent, but is ailing right now - in mind, spirit and body.

I think it would behoove the Clips to do the trade. Artest is a better player than Maggette and is probably more durable. The psychology of Artest is an issue. But hey, if it does not work out and he takes the Clips down you must ask 'are they any worse off than they have been during the past 20 years?' I think it would be worth the gamble for them.

On a similar note, I have a hunch that a Kings trade (probably artest) will happen within the next 10 days. You can just about read it on everyones' faces right now.

Watching the Clipper broadcast, they did EVERYTHING in their power to wish Artest to the Clippers other then call up the Kings and complete the trade themselves. It was pretty funny, to be honest.

And, I don't blame them. I wouldn't want to be on the other end of Artest, Brand, Kaman, and Livingston in about a season or two.

I'd drive Corey to Arco on a bike, up the 5, if I was Baylor or Sterling.

I hope Petrie is holding out for a deal that includes Kenny Thomas outgoing and a first rounder incoming.

I think in hindsight we will look like chumps if we give Artest for Maggette straight up.
