This season is over... Any questions?

One tweak here:

Unless Demarcus, Rondo, and the lead player(s) are on board with the next coach, the Kings will not be successful.

This organization has to stop thinking they can push down their concept of basketball on to these elite players, regardless of what they want or are suited for.

Without player buy-in, this coaching hire is likely to follow the same pattern as the failed previous choices.
It's about time the franchise recognizes that it's a players league, and get a coach that the players will die for out on the court.

On these lines -
has any news person ever asked Cousins who he would like to coach the team next year? (Obviously he can't answer when the coaching status is uncertain, but since once Karl is assured of not coming back quasi-officially, Demarcus should be able to give an opinion as to who he and the team would like to see. It should be OK for the players to have opinions about who they'd like coaching them).
I assumed Vlade was intelligent enough to know this.

The blame does not solely lie on on person this season, there is a void and disconnect between all parties involved in this organization right now, from players to players agent's to coaching staff to minority owners to the GM and President of operations itself. You cannot have a successful franchise with so many parties involved on the wrong page and it trickles down to the product on the court.

There is a lack of foresight and vision for this team, you need all parties involved to buy in and sacrifice in order to make that vision come true, this is a company and the Kings are a product. Sure we can nitpick Marco's defense or Cousin's personality or Collison's missed freethrows at the end of a quarter, but in the grand scheme of things those are minor details compared to the dysfunction in the organization leading to a bad product on the floor. People need to be able to do their jobs.

tldr

IMO - The problems for the Kings are bigger than the coach and the players on the court, it is about the inconsistency and dysfunction between all parties involved in the franchise leading to a poor product.

Literally the only thing stable throughout the years of this Franchise's existence was the unrelenting support of some of the most passionate fans in any sport

Listening to recent podcast interviews done by Brad Stevens and Sean Marks describing their philosophies and how they emphasize not cutting any corners and having the best of everything available for their players and having a unified vision with the Front Office and Ownership is basically describing the exact opposite of what has gone on here in Sacramento. Why cant we just bring in a hardworking GM and Coach who are obsessed with basketball and give them whatever they need, including time, to build something?

Vlade is great and I love him for what he did for Sacramento but not having any FO experience and not having a proper GM/FO and support staff has hurt this team. Alot of that comes from Viveks desire to control everything. We shall see what happens this summer as that has become a more exciting time for kings fans than the actual season.

Well like

Those defensive schemes are just the worst I've ever seen. Like a zone with excessive and unnecessary switching. Karl's offense and defense is epically awful.

We should start thinking about maybe shutting down Cousins... At least giving him less mins

Especially his offense and defense eh?

I find these statements, and you are not alone, kind of bizarre.

They may have been more frustrating than other teams because this is the one that actually could have done something, but there has been a sickness in this fanbase since before the season even started, By our modest standards this has actually been one of our better teams since we had actual good ones. We've actually got a guy who passes, which is novel. And they mostly stuck together too through all the self-inflicted wounds.

the biggest of which is a dam coach. It was interesting how many pinned Karl as a savior when its clear the cracks were large prior to this season commencing. In any case we have a talented team. Outside shooting can be added over summer however it is the acquisition of a quality coach who can leverage what we already have (which is a solid team and play both sides of the ball) that will take us far.

Vlade needs to bring in Danny Ferry.

1st year in: 5th seed
  • Ferry trades Johnson's horrible contract for a 2013 1st rounder AND 2014 and 2015 pick swaps.
  • Ferry trades cash considerations for Kyle Korver
  • Drafts John Jenkins with 23rd pick (lack of production)
  • Drafts Mike Scott in 2nd round (good rotational player)
  • Signs Lou Williams
2nd year in: 8th seed
  • Hires Mike Budenholzer
  • Lets Josh Smith leave for FA
  • Drafts Dennis Schorder with 18th pick(starting pg)
  • Drafts Mike Muscala in 2nd round (5th big)
  • Signs DeMarre Carroll
  • Signs Paul Millsap
3rd year: 1st seed
  • Trades int. player rights for Thabo Sefolsha
  • Drafts Adreian Payne with 15th pick (no production)
  • Drafts Walter Tarves in 2nd round
  • Signs Kent Bazemore
If Vlade is smart, he at least brings in Ferry for a look.
1. Worked for Spurs middle FO
2. Worked as Cavs GM
3. Worked as Spurs VP
4. Worked as Hawks PBO and GM

You'd need to give him full control, and tell everyone to stay the hell out. He is exactly the type of guy we need in the FO.

we need to change the dam title of this thread - the season is far from over - since all star break we've played some dam great teams and lost.

our schedule is getting lighter - we should put a run together soon. 5 out of the 8th, still very much in it.

A statement win would help

Okay, the Kings have 20 games to go...

We are in 10th place and 5 games out of the #8 playoffs spot in the West...

We are in the 8th spot in the NBA Draft lottery currently and only 2 wins from being in the 11th spot (and losing our draft pick to Chicago outright) in the draft.

We also could be in the 8th to 10th spot and STILL LOSE our draft pick IF one or two teams jump ahead of us in the Lotto.

SO, Kings fans, are you rooting for the Kings to WIN (and most probably lose our Lottery pick this year) or LIN and increase our odds of getting a good draft pick????

I'm done for this season.

Let's keep our pick and hopefully we get a good player in the draft and a new coach to go along with the new arena!!!

Yes, it looks like it's done in our completion for the playoffs. The season? Not near over. Our team doesn't need more practice losihg, it needs more practice winning. I'm going to be rooting just as hard for a win each game as always. Ranadive, Divak, Karl and the players are going to be rooting and playing for wins. The fans mostly will be rooting for wins just like me. The threat of losing draft position or even a draft pick is not near enough to change my view. Position of draft picks, and money considerations are important n "Momopoly" but not n the spirit of winning basketball which we need to cultivate. The season is not ver unto the final whistle in game 82.

This season was over the second Vlade decided not to fire Karl.

The way Karl has sabotaged the season, and hampered players with "systems" ill-suited for them, really the only way they could salvage something from the season is to fire him, let Corliss take over, and see what the players could do together (if anything).

Going on a streak and winning a bunch of games would only embolden the morons who think Karl should stay as coach, despite the blatant facts paraded past their eyes on an endless basis this season.

There's one thing I'm still trying to figure out. How does Trill go from starting and getting 25+ MPG to barely playing at all now? Does he irritate Karl that much or is Karl just trolling to the point without realization? I can't seem to put the puzzle together here.

The Kings just have to keep on doing what they're doing so they can get an even higher pick. If management doubles down on the path they went on this year it's going to be the same story next year, except worse, because the options for rebuilding will be even more limited. GET ON WITH THE REBUILD AND BLOW THE FREAKING THING UP!

Out of the last 10 games, he has only played 20 minutes in two of them.
He's averaging less than 8 MPG the past 3 games.

Even at the lowest pre-season estimate, Willie was expected to be a 20-minute per game player -
Karl has completely reneged on the unspoken agreement (and managerial mandate) to play Willie more as he's gotten better.

The match up with Davis in the Pelicans game seemed to be right up Willies skill set. Yet Karl had Rudy and Acy defend Davis most of the game. So unless Boogie was near the basket the Pelicans had a size advantage. Giving the Pelicans a size advantage with Willie sitting on the bench is an example of the "Coaching" we have seen all season long. I feel like Karl is saying "Watch me work one season and get paid for 4."

The season has BEEN over at the all-star break.

its been over since they hired karl who can't galvanize his troops. oh yes boys, practice is optional. wheres AI when you need him... practice? we talking bout practice? we talking bout practice ya'll! how silly is that!

this is truly on vivek. the more and more that is revealed you can tell he has his finger prints on all the stupidity going on.

no brainer. play the young guys and get ready for the next season. sharpen the ax for karl. tell vivek to go vacation in mumbai and come back in october.

lmfao. his game strategy is tight.

all the reports out there are that karl doesn' tlike to play rookies

He didn't mind starting him and playing him 20 plus minutes not that long ago. Why the change all of a sudden? to anger the front office? has to be.

Not only does he not like to play rookies, Karl loves to play politics and manipulate situations. It's really glaring in the case with WCS, but make no mistake that he is playing games with other players as well. It will affect each individual player differently and manifest itself in different ways.

I guess that explains the players' decision to no longer commit to playing defense.

I do wonder sometimes just how bad you could **** up a good defensive team just by adopting our coaching philosophy.

Imagine for instance that George Karl took over the Spurs and instituted these changes:

1) Pace, Pace, Pace. Early is better, always. Lead the league in Pace guys.

2) Benched Duncan and only played him 5-15min a night off the bench

3) switch everything always

4) played 20+ min a night with Tony Parker and Patty Mills paired in the backcourt, many of them with Manu at SF and Kawhi at PF

Now if you did all those things, San Antonio would still be a better defensive team than us. They have more good defenders. But I would bet dollars to doughnuts that all of the above nonsense would begin to mess them up and they wouldn't be close to the #1 defensive team, especially with Karl on the sideline rather than Pop driving them.

This note made me sick.

I'd argue that many of the turncoat Kings fans that always seem to criticize Boogie no matter what he does are the true mental midgets.
Well, really, who can blame them?
It takes a strong personality and basketball knowledge to go against the 5 straight years of Napear's ceaseless propaganda painting Demarcus out to be a cancer.
When he is THE MAIN VOICE that Kings' fans hear, is it any wonder that the majority of them are vastly misinformed about Demarcus?

And why do you feel that way? Because he's your favorite player? Are all the NBA analysts mental midgets too? They have a worse view of him than the anti-DMC crowd here.
