Given the NBA bought NO and just sold to owners looking to keep them there, I'd have no problem with that scenario.

As for the NBA buying, and then selling to move us to Van? Won't waste my time considering it.
 
Just consider it yet another city taking the opportunity to pitch their own idea out there and see if it sticks. They never do...

Maybe the dude was confused and meant to say....The future owner of the SACRAMENTO Kings should prepare a second deal to purchase, at a bargain price, the Vancouver Canucks of the NHL, which will give them a chance to play in an outdated dump called Power Balance Pavilion.

Or play is a brand new arena in Sacramento, which the new Kings owner will be happy to help finance. ;)

(Although, in reality, I would not want to see any hockey team moved away from Canada.)

Neither do I. I would love to see a hockey team in Sacramento, though, I think that'd be pretty sweet. I, myself, am a Sharks fan, but I'd welcome a team to Sac Town, CA. Maybe Phoenix??????
 
Here's a little story about a town similar to Sacramento that had professional minor league hockey and minor league Triple-A baseball, and then decades later landed its first major league franchise - an NBA franchise. I was living in Oklahoma City in mid-1960s and saw both of the Oklahoma state capitals minor league teams play live. Fans were very enthusiastic since there was little else to do around the place except stare at miles of little red clay hills nearby - very boring then and now. Well, not so much now I guess with the Thunder NBA championship contenders. OKC baseball at the St Louis Cardinals affilliate was fun but it was hockey that was the big local BOMB! The minor league OKC hockey team which is probably long gone was nearly always sold out, extremely loud, rowdy, and very cool to be among the passionate throngs of Oklahoma City (of all places) hockey nuts.

I have no doubt, especially with fantastic Sactown support for the River Cats and with the Kings loyal fans that an NHL franchise in California's capital would be a smashing success.
 
Personally I don't think an NHL franchise belongs in Sacramento anymore than an NBA franchise belongs in Vancouver. Doesn't mean I don't think it can work, just as a fan of hockey I think the game really suffered as a result of expanding into non-traditional markets.

I guess I can understand your point of view but where are the current non-traditional baseball or basketball markets and how much suffering is going on in MLB or NBA because of them?
 
Hockey is a niche sport, same with major league soccer. Expansions into areas that don't properly support the teams have proved disastrous. MLS can recover because its new and the salaries are cheap, NHL basically re-drafted the rules to appeal to new fans and did serious damage to the game. IMHO. Plus it drove teams from smaller cities in Canada, the midwest and New England. I liken Hartford, CT to Sacramento in this case.
