Third time a charm? What's Petrie's grade now?

What's Petrie's grade?

Was going to vote B, since the Nocioni trade is growing with me, but I marked C based on Slim's metric. It's hard to beleive it's been 4 years since the Webber trade and almost three since we last made the playoffs.

My question is, when do we stop making excuse for Petrie? These move are either well overdue or very mediocre.

As long as there are easy-to-please/fool fans who gives Petrie an "A" or a "B" for being a mediocre GM, there would always be excuses for Petrie. I think this is also the reason why we have a very poor team - some fans are contented with a defective product assembled by a mediocre GM. Petrie is just too much over-rated by some of us.

No draft picks, no real young prospects. At least he got us McCants, who has a small chance, and bought out Gooden. Nocioni is unnacceptable though. C-

I think we're at least moving in the right direction which gets a C by default. Cutting the veterans loose so there's room to play the kids is what we've been asking for for the past two seasons. I could hold it against him that he's late to the party, but I'm just happy he's finally here. Progress is progress. I bumped it up to a B on the assumption that McCants and Diogu will actually get to play now that space has deliberately been created for them, but I'm not all that confident about it. I mean, they have to play them don't they? Are they going to haul Kenny Thomas out of scrap just to keep Diogu off the floor? (Don't answer that!)

I think that has more to do with the Maloofs than Petrie. That is why I gave him a B.

I don't make excuses for Petrie because I accept that he's not operating in a vacuum. He's had to deal with a myriad of circumstances we cannot even imagine...let alone comprehend.

I truly believe that some people expect way too much from him and are disappointed when the pie-in-the-sky trade proposals that are part ande parcel of the Personnel Moves forum don't come to pass.

I continue to have faith in Geoff Petrie. I think the moves he made this time were significant and done with the future in mind. With the number of expirings we now have, we aren't going to be looking at a lot of dead wood and when's the last time you could honestly say that?

Do you remember how you felt before Jason Williams was drafted? Before Vlade was on the team and poor Mitch Richmond was the only reason we had to cheer? At least we've had Jason Thompson and Spencer Hawes to help the pain of hitting bottom and trying to climb back out to ease the pain.

Maybe I just have too much purple tint in my glasses, but I'm seeing lots of things to be hopeful about and a good number of them are because of Geoff Petrie, not in spite of him...

Dead wood has been cleared - except for Kenny Thomas and Beno. The chainsaw is still wailin' with more cuts to come. If not for signing Beno, Petrie would get an A. Give him a strong B.

This move was not Petrie's. It was obviously the Maloofs who are bleeding financially. All of this year's moves are about:

$

These moves had something to do with the....

Al ighty ollar.

Wonder how many will get the reference.. If not google it :D

Nobody can accuse me of being a Petrie loyalist through thick and thin - I have been very hard on him.

But I think it is much easier said than done to shed a Brad Miller. So for that my hat is off.

I also give him credit for admitting he was wrong on his MLE guys Salmons and Moore, and just cutting his losses (I think Salmons was a stat hog and I do not like his sulking when he had to come off the bench - glad to be rid of him).

And.. I give him credit for moving Gooden out of the way of the kids (although I never bought into the idea that Geoff ever "coveted" Gooden). I mean hey - here is a FLEXIBLE PIECE that was genuinely flexible for a change. Good on ya Geoff.

I LOVE the state of the team now... rock bottom with only one true albatross in Beno Udrich - and who knows maybe he will pan out you never know.

And last but not least, I don't hate Noc, I think he is a little overpaid but not horrifically overpaid, and I like the guy. This is not a franchise buster contract.

First time I've been pleased with Geoff in a LONG time!

I'm just curious...what COULD have Petrie done at the trade deadline that would have not given you hope? It's nice to be optimistic about our team, and believe me, I try my best to be, but at some point, you have to give blame to those who deserve it. Using your viewpoint, I could say ANY team is headed for success and that they have many things to be hopeful for...so why fire anyone? Why should we ever question anything that we don't truely comprehend?

What could he have done? Easy. Had he done nothing I would have been very discouraged. I don't know if I can really explain but I think what he's done recently has been a step back in the right direction and for that I am truly grateful. I also believe that he is finally calling the shots, whereas I could not say that without reservation until recently.

I'll always try to find something to be optimistic about because that's how I live my life.

I was very upset at the trades we had at the deadline. Getting rid of Brad Miller for expiring was fine, but for a team that is aiming to rebuild through the draft, we didn’t get one pick or a young player that has something to add beyond this year.

I was never really worried that we would sign Drew until a few members brought it up. Even though I’m not going to grade him this time, I do think buying out Drew was a big bonus in my book. Plus, I don’t have to see Natt place him in our line-up (cause we all know he was going to use him a lot).

I was worried about the lack of picks too, but this is a weak draft. Having said that, we are really hoping that Spencer and JT pan out. If they don't, we're right back where we started. But, there are risks everywhere I guess.

He brought in Mccants for virtually nothing aka Shelden
He brought in Nocioni for a troubled Salmons.
He waived mikki & Douby for blatant incompetence
That's all GOOD.

He waived Drew Gooden. BUT WHY in the world he was brought in in the first place?!!? It ended up that he sent Brad away for absolutely nothing...
He traded Bobby Brown for a freakin calvin booth!?!? PG is our weakest position and he trade one of our pgs for a crap like this?! with Beno injured?!

so I think a good solid C would be well enough

he brought in Will Solomon for the backup PG slot..... We also have BJAX and Cisco/McCants can play spot minutes at the position..
