The way I see it...

Anyone see Peja's "quote" on the title bar of Kings.com?

"Our fans are GOLD when they get loud, it gives me extra energy!"

Does that sound like Peja??

"When we need that extra energy at home, we draw it from our SIXTH MAN - the 17,317 screaming fans." - Mike Bibby

"When I need that extra energy at home, I eat a Snickers bar." - Commercial, TV

"Our FANS are worth their weight in GOLD. If we could take them on the road, we would." - Brad Miller

-----------------------------------------------------------

Which quote WASN'T in the full page ad taken out by the Kings?

;)

I love your avatar..
Farley is god!
"Last time I heard he wasn't using his paper for writing, but for rolling dubees, your gonna be doing a lot of dubee rolling, when your living in a van down by the river!"

And yes they are taking the gold thing to far...

Thanks, O.Rhyme...

"Dad, is that Bill Shakespeare over there? I can't tell!"

I wish I could have seen the ad. Then again, it is probably a good idea that I didn't.

I don't know how good this is, but I scanned it in pieces, put it back together in PageMaker and then printed it out and scanned it back...

Jesus.

Our front office is really Gold, else how else could they manage to simultaneously blow smoke up our asses while also making our players look like tools?

I honestly have to think they just don't get it...

I glance up at the full-page ad Webber took out last year, and then I look back at this year's "official" version.

Someone in the front office must have thought, "Hey, Webber's ad went over big with the fans. We should do the same thing again this year."

How do you even begin to explain the difference?

I'm actually beginning to feel guilty for all the criticisms...but blast it, this is the team I love and they're really making a mess IMHO of the off-the-court public relations.

I feel I should come to Sacramento and hold up a really BIG sign in front of the offices at ARCO:

YOU'RE TRYING WAY TOO HARD!

The difference? SINCERITY.

I agree with both sentiments. This is still our team, but damnit they are making themselves, and us by extension, look like a bunch of tools. I'm sure there are a bunch of hardworking people over at Arco trying their best, but the higher ups calling the shots are embarrassing themselves and really just need to stop and let this be about basketball again.

Thanks VF. Now I see what you were talking about. It is all WAY too contrived. Kind of makes me a little sad. I don't think they really understand what being a King's fan is all about. It is not the fans that have forgotten how much we love this team. I think that is the main problem with all of this "gold standard" stuff. The focus needs to be on the TEAM, nothing else. They don't need to sell us on the Kings. Strip away all the trappings. Get back to King's basketball. Then, all will be well in the "kingdom" again.

Very well said, chelle. I absolutely agree!

A nice read, VF. I really liked the part on the midas curse. I wish the newspaper guy included it in his rant about the jerseys.

I feel like the Maloofs are treating us like Vegas tourists that have to be enticed to its product, but sadly, the fake shiney gold unis, oversized statues, and flashy singers and dancers aren't cutting it.

Maybe if they had a huge statue of a golden cowbell to welcome visitors of ARCO... Wouldn't it be great to put some cowtown into the Maloofs.

I don't think they get that it is the Spirit of the people that drives their love of Kings Basketball. Much like what is lacking in their most recent paid advertisement. Chris had it when he said "Our Spirit will never be broken".

You guys have it right. This year they are tools of the Maloofs to promote "6" and "gold" marketing. Now, we question their authenticity in their quotes. Is this their spirit? To promote marketing?

Its a business, but when the business does not feel honest and is contrived, maybe this is better suited for those Vegas types and not the cowtowners.

ARgh, I don't really mean to go off on the Maloofs, but I'm just angry in the way they've done this promotion of the 6/fan. We'll love this stupid team no matter what crazy gimmics they put around it. This town loved them as the Garbage Team of the League. We just love Kings Basketball.

I'm not sure if they really care about "what being a Kings Fan is all about" sadly enough. We are cash cows to be exploited. That doesn't mean they don't love us though, who doesn't love a cash cow? They know that if they make a few more cult-ish fans that maybe they'll get enough suppprt to fund a new arena or at least maintain a large fanatic fan base if the team doesn't pan out. Kings basketball as we have known it in the past few years could be over. I think the Maloofs know this. Anyway...the campaign is definately backfiring on them. I believe it all comes down to that arena though.
