A) Petrie has been quoted as saying something along the lines they thought they could make the lower seeds but have to call it what it is. I hope that speaks volumes but never can be sure.If I knew what that meant I would likely say that's out of line.
As for the general point...this can/will proabbly be merged into one of our other threads on the same topic, just want to find the closest fit. In any case, there really are those twin questions with the Kings: a) can Geoff see the need to start over; and b) will the Maloofs admit/accept it if Geoff does?

B) No, not according to the quote indicating at least one of the owners still think the playoffs are in reach.
If we happen to win the lottery... man oh man what that would do for this team. A guy like Oden would just be awesome for this team. Whoever gets this guy will be set for about 10 years.
Oden v. Durant
Before the season Oden was the consensus #1. And he HAS been playing with one hand, which is quite remarkable. Still, I have watched about 4 Ohio State games recently and he's not dominant. I have yet to see Kevin Durant play (besides highlights - which can be deceiving), but he does seem dominant and people are very high on him. He's 6'10 and appears more athletic than Oden. I wonder if Durant wouldn't be the better pick. It would be a nice decision to have to make.

Anyone seen Durant play enough to have a real take on him?
I'd still take Noah or Horford over Durant, just on the need for an actual stud at the 4 or 5 spot. We can always fill in the other positions afterwards...unless we can swing a deal with Denver for Martin(if he keeps his head on straight...I know , thats alot to ask, but look at our track record with head cases), that would be another option, too. Then we could look at drafting another position, perhaps. You also have to realize that you have a guy named Artest at the SF position, too. And I sure as hell dont want to give him up. Durant is too good to play second fiddle at the SF position, I'll give ya that much.Oden v. Durant

Oden probably fits our needs better, though.

I don't think you can afford to play the position game when you are casting about for a superstar, and I think virtually everybody believes that there is much more superstar potential in Durant than in Horford or Noah. That's not the time to be drafting for need. The need is a superatar. Bigger the better, and so I go Oden first, Wright second, Durant third. But a superstar anything trumps a solid anything else. If you get a kid who really is KG with more perimeter skills, I am not giddy because that sounds like a softy tweener to me with the downside of being Jonathon Bender. But if he's going to be a star, then you take him, and trade anything and everything you need to to build whatever team is appropriate to compliment his talents. That's one of the big edges in having a true superstar -- makes all your other moves more obvious.

The thing about Durant is that he plays both the perimeter and post games really well- reminds you so much of Tmac it's scary. Besides all of his moves on the perimeter, he's got a nice turnaround jumper and a jump hook with either hand in the post, both of which are practically unguardable because of his wingspan (7'4).
The thing about Durant is that he's one of those "throw him the ball, instant offense" guys who can close games for you and really lift you up when you struggle. We haven't had one since Webber went down with that injury.
well to really rebuild, we're going to have to trade artest. even if we don't, to pass up on the unbelievable star potential of durant for horford or noah is like picking sam bowie over michael jordan and i like horford. durant is so good you can put him at pf and he'll still be a top prospect at his position. you only pass up on him for oden and that's it. durant is a player you build a team around, artest is not. and how long do you think artest will stand being on a losing team before he blows up? he's not a player you center a rebuilding effort around. our need for a star player is larger than our specific need for a pf.
